Hello everyone,
this is my first ever entry into this forum. Just sharing what I consider a fun way of using something that would otherwise go to waste.
Have you ever saved the rubber mat after you take the stamps out to mount them on your wood blocks? I have been collecting them, just thinking they MAY be useful for something. Saturday I got out the one from "Pretty petites" which has 8 little windows in it. I used it instead of the "acrylic block stamping" which I recently learned from a tutorial. I used watercolor crayons in 3 different shades and It turned out quite original. I made a card which I will be uploading soon.
I've saved ALLLLL of mine too, FOR YEARS! Not TOTALLY sure what your method is from your description... (Dealing with a SUPER headache today---my brain is a little slow tonight!) BUT, I KNOW there is a use out there for these "excess" pieces of rubber! HOPE to see what you've done with them!!!!!!!!!! LET US KNOW WHEN YOU POST!!!!!!!!

I posted the only one card I've made using this sticky rubber remnant, but I am not quite sure that I love the card. But I am looking forward to give it another chance... or two, or three? : ) I'm SO thrilled to see the replies to this entry. I don't know if this message can be read by all the ladies who have written a reply, or not... mmmh I'm new to the forum, but I enjoy the interaction with other people, and to see their galleries is a treat! LOL! I like clicking buttons as an adventure to see what I learn on the way... I am confused now but I think it's the "quote" button I clicked... or was it "Go advanced"... I need to practice using the forum...
Have used the extra rubber cut up and put on a block or brayer, but have never thought about using the whole negative area. Thanks for the tip. I'm excited about getting my most recent order to see what the "throw away" rubber can do!
I like your card!! that is also a great idea and gives an original background. BTW my card which I uploaded with this technique sold for $3.00 : D

I know that the pieces are often rather small but if you have a larger, or even a not too small piece, you can heat the rubber with a heat gun and press onto something with a pattern or texture (for instance buttons or a coin) and make your own design stamp!

There used to be a type of foam you could buy for this method but I have done it myself with the red rubber from around your stamps. It doesn't need too much heating and just push the object to make the impression into the warm rubber and hold there for a minute until the rubber cools down a little. If you don't like the effect you can reheat the rubber again!

Thanks again Sarah. I have looked for tutorials and there are heaps on how to make your own stamps but I couldn't find one where they melt or heat up the left over rubber from the stamp sets. What could you use other than buttons?
Ok Anita, I may have lead you astray a bit on this. I decided to try and recreate this technique again (it was a method that I used a loooong time ago and it worked then but the rubber 'recipe' must have changed since then as I had no luck this time). So sorry about that BUT it did work with the back of some old Making Memories foam stamps that I had and a little rubbery block that came from a packet of brads. I used some small chipboard flowers and made a nice little stamp

Hi Sarah, thanks for clarifying. I was mystified as I really had no idea how this would work. The u-tubes I watched on stamp making are probably more fuss than I'm willing to try. I do enjoy watching different techniques, as I'm sure many people do, but there are some that are just not for you. At the moment I'm interested in trying brayering, which I've never tried before. Michelle Zindorf has lots of tutorials and I can't wait to sit down and have a go at it!

Have fun Anita... I am willing to give anything a try or at least my interpretation of it. I have 'discovered' lots of fun things along the way. One of my favourite things to do/create is mixed media art so lots of the techniques are great for this!
I have a whole BOX of the leftover rubber with sticky foam on the back. So far, DH has asked for pieces of it for several of his fix it projects, and I've never actually done anything with it. Can't throw it out, but maybe I'll try something from this thread!
