Default Silhouette Portrait-can you use a Cricut Mini mat?

I noticed the Cricut mats are so much cheaper, and heard you can use the 12x12 Cricut mats in the Cameo. Trying to find out if anyone has used a Cricut Mini mat in the Silhouette Portrait before I buy them as extra mats? Wasn't certain the dimensions were correct, but I suppose you could cut the edges of the Cricut mat if too wide?

Thank you in advance!

I just held up my Portrait mat and my Cricut mini mat, the Cricut mat is about 1/2" longer and wider than the Portrait mat, it's also quite a bit thicker. I've never tried it but you'd definitely have to trim it down and the thickness might be a problem?

I answered this today. Went ahead and purchased the double pack of Cricut mini mats (11.99 at Michaels - cheaper on Amazon, and way cheaper than Silhouette mats). I taped the edges in about 1/4 inch into the green area of the Cricut mat (so the rollers didn't hit sticky), and it works PERFECTLY. Load the mat with the load thicker material button, not the regular mat loading button.

Good to know, thanks! When my Portrait mat dies I get more Cricut minis.

I'm confused, my cricut mat is 6 in wide and my silhouette portrait mat is 8 in wide. I thought there were only 2 mats for the cricut the 12in and the 6 inch?

No. There is an in-between size designed for the Cricut Mini. 8.5 x 12

Personally, I would be hesitant to use anything other than the mats made specifically for the Silhouette. They may work but they were not designed for use with the Silhouette and I would be concerned abut long term effects on the machine. It's a pricey machine and would be a lot more expensive to replace than getting the mats made for it. Just my two cents...

I use my 12 inch cricut mats in my silhouette cameo all the time. No taping edges, just load it right in the machine. I've been doing this since the cameo was released. No problems at all.

We're talking about the Portrait not the Cameo
