I want to make a guest/wedding book for my husband's cousin to coordinate with the invitations I have already made, but I am stuck on a size. One size seems too small, another too big. I was hoping to have it done in time to surprise them with it when I give them the invitations, but I have stalled too long.
What is a good size?!
I had two guest books. There were pre-made scrapbook albums that had pockets on the pages for you to slide in your 4x6 photos. Then the guests signed their well wishes around the pictures. I like the idea of having 2 small books so you don't have the line backing up just to get to the one book.
Are people still doing guest books? and do they plan to have one? I know some weddings I have been to recently where we have signed a dinner platter (which was fired afterwards), a picture mat and postcards. Never saw the post card one as we had a handicapped person in our group and went in and out that entrance (also something to consider). I would just hate for you to put a lot of time/effort into something that they won't find useful and doesn't go with their plans.
Mine was about 8x10. It was a traditional guest book with lines in it for people to sign, but I think you can get 8x8 scrapbook binders that would make a nice sized guest book.
When I got married we just bought our guest book. We did make our invitations but it never occured to us until the last minute to even get/need a guest book.
When my MIL and FIL celebrated their 50th last year. My SIL's were in charge. I have 5.
And they went with a sorta country cottage theme.
The drinks were served in mason jars with fabric for the lids and drinking straws. One of my SIL's brought her glass drink dispensers, they look like a beehives. Which seemed to be a common theme I saw when we were visiting, Utah.
And the rest of us were in charge of food. Which was kinda weird for me and DH as we were from out of town and didn't really know where to go so we just gave my BIL $ to pick up our item for us. He was going out and running errands for the party anyway.
But the cool thing that they did for the guest book was that we signed and wrote messages on rocks for the MIL and FIL. When we were done they were placed in a vase.
I know they appreciated that because it sits in my in-laws living room.
Personally, although I know where my guest book from my wedding is it doesn't exactly sit in any particular part of my house. Nope it just sits on my book case behind the doors where we keep our board games.

I never looked at my wedding guest book after the wedding - not once, not NEVER! You kind of already know who was there or who thought of you or whatever from the cards and gifts, so the book was a bit redundant. A lot of people didn't sign it, anyway, because they came in a different way, didn't know there was one, got sidetracked in conversations, etc. I don't think I'd stress too much about it - what ever you decide will be adequate, I'm sure
To be honest I am not sure if they have one or if they were going to do something less traditional like the plate or rocks, so I was making it blank, in order for them to use anyway they would like, or not at all lol. That's what I plan on telling them, use it or not, it's there for you.

Oh I went with regular 8.5x11 so I didn't have to do too much cutting/work
My cousin bought a plain white one from a stationery store and asked me to personalize it. I ran a window sheet through my printer to add the wording and attached it to a peice of glimmer paper that I glued onto the front of the book. The size was 5 1/2" x 8"
For my in-law's anniversary, I made an accordion style one which allowed me to spread open as many pages as the reception table could allow. I brought along lots of markers and guests didn't have to form a long line just to sign. The finished size was 8x6".
For my mother in-law's birthday, with a smaller guest list, I did individual,pages for guests/couples to sign and slipped them into a pre made binder with 8x8 pockets.
