I had a grad party, most people around here have grad parties. However, my friend's dd's friend is an only child with not many relatives. They usually go on a cruise every year (since she was 2yo). This year as her grad "present" she was allowed to bring a friend on the spring break cruise. My friend had to pay the airfare and spending money, but the other girl's parents paid for the cruise (or something like that). I also had a cousin who had a choice of money or a grad party and she chose the money whereas her brother chose the party. So there are all kinds of options out there.

eta: Chuckle...one of my aunt's was thinking of a college grad party for her son who graduated from college 4 years ago (or is it 5 now) since his sister got a party when she graduated from college. A little to late if you ask me...
