Challenge Title: You Had Me In Stitches
Hostess: PH in VA, a/k/a Patricia
Date: Tuesday, October 9, 2012
Welcome to Day 9 of this year's Hope You Can Cling To challenges! We're glad to have you join us in this worthy cause.
Sadly, one of the results from surgery to remove cancerous growths can be stitches. But as a popular saying goes, "laughter is the best medicine", and when one laughs a lot they are said to be "in stitches". Although cancer IS serious business, studies have shown that laughter produces endorphins - brain chemicals that help relieve pain and make one feel better. (You can read about that in this article from ScientificAmerican.com.) So let's make humorous cards using stitching (hand, machine, or faux) as an embellishment.
My main goal for this challenge is that your card will make us laugh. Let's help the cancer patients at M.D. Anderson feel better by releasing their endorphins!
Any type of humor is fine - jokes, puns, silliness, whatever makes you giggle! Just be sure to embellish your card with some sort of stitching.

4. Please package all challenge entries with an envelope, protected with a clear plastic bag and mail them to our partner at the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center to benefit patients being treated for breast cancer and their family. We would like for them to receive cards throughout the month of October, but we understand if you'd like to mail all your cards at once.
5. Since these cards will be used by visitors for patients, most should be blank inside, but feel free to send cards with messages of hope for the patients in addition to your challenge cards!

I'd like to extend a hug of thanks to my sample makers - Taylor, Lee, and Leslie. You girls make my heart smile!
Thank you so much for participating in this card drive! I'm looking forward to seeing how creatively you can keep SCS in stitches with your humorous cards embellished with stitching. Let's bring loads of cheer to the cancer patients!
Good morning Patricia! The samples for your challenge are both lovely and funny. My sense of humor is about a 2 out of 10. I just don't do funny although I love it when something makes me laugh.
I have to work today so will let this gel in my brain to see if I can come up with something funny. The stitching part will be easy. Thanks for the challenge and I'll be back later - or maybe tomorrow since today is pretty full.

For today's Stitches Challenge, I decided to do a halloween card as our family has always enjoyed Halloween. I used SU's Little Boo and Sweeter Treaters, along with dc leaves from Impression Obsession. I embossed the background with Cuttlebug's Leafy Branch, and added a stitched ribbon border. Here's Halloween Fun

I decided to do another card as my last one was cute, rather than humorous- I used SU's Sleigh Full of Toys, and Imaginisce's Scooter stamps- and added lots of fall leaves. Hope this warning sign helps! Here's Penguin Student Driver

Hey Patricia! Thanks for a fun challenge! I thought this would be a slam dunk until I dug through my stamps and had far fewer funny ones that I thought I had. Guess it's time to go shopping! I did manage to come up with one, though, that I thought might be appreciated. Not much pink here, and it focuses on a fashion element that many women can relate to. My thinking is that just because a gal is going through these procedures doesn't mean she can't still be concerned about fashion.

Pink isn't a requirement today... just some sort of stitching (whether it's done by hand or machine, or either hand-drawn or stamped faux stitching, or stitched ribbon), and something to make us laugh!
Okay, it's after midnight here, so I guess it's tomorrow, but it's still today until I go to bed, so I'm saying I'm still keeping up with the HYCCT challenges. I'm getting way behind on commenting though. And there are lots of great cards to comment on, which I'll do if it takes me until Thanksgiving!
