Good morning ladies. It's turkey day!!! I'm going to start mine in a couple of hours. I don't need to be in any rush because we are only having bil over. Dh will put it in in a couple of hours. The only thing I need to do is make the sweet potato pies, dressing and egg gravy and of course whip those potatoes. Wishing everyone a wonderful day!!

No -- we went to see my DD in Utah last weekend. She was in a play! And she is going to her bf's parents' today. My son and his wife are too far but they are all coming home for Christmas in a month!! Today will be just the two of us and my mom, but I am still cooking all the trimmings!! Love to cook turkey and smell that all day. My dogs are pretty excited about those scents too! HA!

Ooh Lynn, I didn't even think of using my Direct TV! We just got it (never had TV in my entire life) about a month ago, so I am still forgetting I have it! Great idea!

Never? WOW!! We are thinking of getting rid of Directv. It is so expensive and probably our land line. We need to cut some of our expenses out for the coming year because it looks like a bad one.

Wow! It's pretty rare here for someone not to have TV (we don't have it, to the utter amazement of the various cable reps calling at the door), but I'd have thought even more so over there. I don't know where we'd find time for it, TBH. DVDs from the library keep us going perfectly well.

I grew up without a TV and sometimes I wish my kids were too! There is so much garbage to wade through and even the "good" shows have all the commercials. When my kids were younger I only allowed them 1/2-1hour a day and only Public Television shows that had no commercials. My newly married DD has no TV yet, but she works at the library and they have a NetFlix acct. too so they watch old TV shows on there. We existed on sub-basic cable for a very long time...just enough to get good reception and the PBS channel for my kids. Since being in IA and needing better internet for DH when he was in school and for my older kids as they're in HS and needing internet for research, we have had a larger cable package and I wish we didn't have a lot of the extra channels....it would be hard to give up Food Network and Home & Garden though.
I got so much done yesterday that I'm feeling pretty good about today! Now I'm down to more finishing of dishes and getting the table ready.
May we all find much to be thankful for today even in the midst of times of loss and illness.

That's a great choice. I love classical Christmas music. That video is adorable. I am so that little girl directing the orchestra. Thanks for the link.

I've gone periods without a TV set and managed quite well. I have a TV now and it's on a lot even if I'm not actually sitting there watching it. However, I don't have cable, satellite, or anything like that. I had cable once, but cancelled it when I moved in 1986 and haven't wanted to pay for it since then. One reason is the cost; the other is the time I'd waste watching TV if I had cable.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all of you, whether it's celebrated where you are or not.

Dh pulled the turkey out of the fridge where it has been residing since Sunday and its still frozen. So that means we will be eating tonight. I guess I can go ahead with the rolls, sweet potato pies and stuffing. I hope I don't miss anything. I'll be in and out today. Good luck to everyone!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all.....May it be a wonderful time of gratitude and memory making with your friends and family.....

I just took the turkey out of oven and waiting to carve it....need to pack up some sides to take into the gals that are having to work today.....(we had a neighborhood disruption about 0230 so since I was up and couldn't go back to sleep, figured I'd get the turkey started) My main turkey dinner will be tomorrow with some oddball friends that don't have family in the area either....we've been getting together for about 10 yrs now and we split the cooking duties, so I'm done and will just warm up everything except I'm gonna try those tomato cheese rolls but I'm gonna use fresh herbs.

Haha - 'oddball' friends. Yep, I guess I'm one of those. This sounds like a sad tale, but I remember one Thanksgiving in Chicago that I spent in my local hangout, a folk music bar, with a bunch of other oddballs who didn't have anywhere to go. We had snacks, but no turkey. It was a quiet afternoon, but at least we were with friends.

HEEHEE....that's kinda how we got started too....but hey, if you're with friends, it's all good....My unmarried auntie always told me that family can be anyone you want it to be so make it your own...first yr was just me and a friend but others have come and gone over time...we have a great time. and I'm making you an honorary oddball so you come up any yr...you're always welcome...

Wow. Vielen, vielen Dank - I see my name on the winner list! What a treat! And here I was feeling sorry for myself being "here" instead of "there" on Thanksgiving.
Have to go see what I won. And do some speedreading

Ha. That sounds so familiar. Couple years ago I bought two marzipan figures (good luck for the New Year in Germany) and hid them from the kids. And myself. I found them a year later, not far from where I thought I had put them...

Just got home from the gym. I think I worked out enough to eat some of that stuffing! Stuffing is my Thanksgiving downfall! I do home made - no boxed for this gal on Thanksgiving! Could smell the turkey when I walked in the door. Yum!
