Now I'm bummed that I haven't been DVRing this season's episodes. I'm going to have to wait until netflix has the episodes.
OMG, I had to check if you were one of the FL people, for a second I thought someone IRL got shot and that's not too surprising. My aunt insists that there's a daily shooting in Tampa, but she's a tad off in the head these days. Just a tad, cause it's probably weekly.

Can't believe you guys did more prizes last night and I missed it! I made myself get off the computer, but I was still up. Congrats to the winners.
I just looked at the recipe, it's not the same one that I followed and I no longer have that one. I think it was in Bon Appetit magazine. I didn't keep the magazines when we moved. Dang.
I still want to talk to hubby about the deep fryer.

Yikes, that sure does have a lot of fruit in it. I bet it's thick as a brick.

I make my German Grandma's Fruit Bread recipe at Christmas time. I still have the hand-written recipe she gave me with her little comments thrown in! Her's is a yeast bread with tons of dried fruits in it and she always added the black walnuts that my Grandpa cracked every winter to pass the time!

"Feasting on Asphalt" ? Sounds yummy. I am so American-pop-culturally-deprived. Not to mention American-culinary-deprived. Perhaps, considering health, that is a good thing...

Oh, how precious!

My dad did the walnut thing, too. My Nebraska cousins loved when he'd send shelled walnuts every Christmas. Precious memories.

And Gail, I've two boxes of freshly gathered walnuts in my garage if you want to come crack 'em! Walnut trees are the only trees growing here in my Riesling valley among the grapes.

My stepdad loves Alton Brown and has all his books. He got to see him at a book signing. Alton Brown asked him what he liked to cook and he told him he hadn't made anything yet. Alton suggested maybe he should try out one of his books instead of just owning them.

We'll be spending Thanksgiving with my 90 year old step-FIL. Hubby's mom passed in July so this will be his first year alone on the holidays. Doesn't sound like his kids will be able to make it here to spend with him so we'll be there for him. He's a sweetheart and we all love being around him. It will be a fun day of eating and visiting...and eating! Ha!

Great picture Gail of your grandmother. I wish I had patience for hand quilting like they used to do back in the old days, those ladies made some amazing quilts.

congrats to the winners!
You are amazing Jennifer! Thanks for sharing.
I have been under the weather and working the last few days so I haven't been on here much, but you ladies seem like a bunch of fun.

LOL!!! forgot there are people from across the pond here too....It was called that because he and his crew all ride Harleys and they took a cross country bike trip stopping in at various little out of the way places to sample good ole American food....

Gail....I love the pic of your Grandma....such a wonderful legacy....My dad shelled walnuts all winter too....He'd collect them from the state lakes where they went camping and then we'd all get a bag for Christmas....he also made rag rugs for each girl when we moved out....I still have mine....treasure those memories...

Paula....You mean we are supposed to actually USE the cookbooks??? Who knew???.....HEEHEE!!! I have a whole bookcase (5 shelf) filled with cookbooks....I love to just read them....and the pictures don't have any calories....LOL!!! actually I made a pact with myself to start doing more cooking so am going to dig some out....I got the kitchen and pantry cleaned and purged of bad stuff last week so this week, I'm restocking with healthy stuff...
