And I wouldn't turn down a recipe for homemade stew either.
I've done the kind with the package seasoning mix and didn't care for it much.
2 lbs of beef cut into 2 in chunks
season beef with 1 tsp Salt, 1/2 tsp Pepper, 1 tsp Thyme, 1/4 tsp Marjoram, 1/4 tsp Oregano, 1/4 tsp basil.

Dredge the beef in 1/2 cup of all purpose flour

Cut up 1/2 c onion; 1/4 c of carrots, 1/4 c of leeks, 1/4 c of celery

Heat 2 TBS oil in Dutch oven.. put beef in batches and brown on all sides -- remove with slotted spoon to a plate

make sure you still have about 2 TBS of "Fat" left in the dutch oven -- add the veggies and cook for about 5 minutes until the onions are soft

Add in 2 Bay leaves, 1 tsp Salt, 1/2 tsp Pepper, 1 tsp Thyme, 1/4 tsp Marjoram, 1/4 tsp Oregano, 1/4 tsp basil, Meat, and enough beef broth to cover about 1/2 the meat -- bring to boil and reduce to simmer for 1.5 - 2 hours until beef is fork tender

Add 2-3 carrots, 2-3 parsnips, 1-2 turnips, and 3-4 potatoes cut up in a 1 in dice and cook for additional 30-40 minutes.

Serve

Bedtime's sneaking up fast here, so I think that I'll just say congrats to the lucky ribbon winners and catch up on the rest in the morning.
It's a bummer when you get that "video not available" message - it happened to me just this morning when I was going to follow up something on a blog.

Heck, I was 20 when I attended a concert by a band that had just released it's second album. Anyone heard of Van Halen?

Thankfully, my sons (one who still lives at home) love the same 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s music that I enjoy. I'm not big of their death metal, but at least they aren't big on rap. The closest to 'rap' I listen to is Lincoln Park.

My nephew and niece were big into Beatles from a very early age, always their choice for the car. I was raised on classical mostly but I like a lot of the 60's stuff.
Congratulations to those Hambo winners, they're going to have some fun.
See ya later...

Mmmm...
This recipe with a little homemade bread or a batch of noodles sound WONDERFUL!
What cut of beef do you usually buy for your stew? Or do you purchase the precut "stew meat" from the meat department?
