Besides if I were to compare my cards with those really beautiful works of art in the galleries, mine would all be "less than stellar." Of course, my Mom taught me when I was very young not to compare myself to others.
And the other consideration is that sometimes it's not the card itself that makes the recipient emotional, but it's the writing inside and the thought from the giver. Some of my favorite cards I'll keep forever aren't handmade (some from the dollar store even!), but are filled with a heartfelt personalized note, so they're keepers for that reason alone.

I think since the house is fairly picked up, the toys outside are picked up prepared for rain and the metal that some company is going to pick up in the morning is out I will clean off my desk and start fresh tomorrow.

The last two are done! They are linked, they are posted to the prize thread!!! Yea!!
Now what do I do - Oh that's right - Go back to stamping some more cards!
Talked to my hubby on the phone tonight and he said he was glad I was finally finished with the challenges. But I told him not to get too excited, because there were lots of other challenges I could do every day.
Maybe I should go clean up a little before I start again. Good Idea?

I had an idea for the Christmas card challenge and started on it and didn't like how it was going, so that kind of fizzled out my mojo. But I took photos of all the cards I've created so far this week and uploaded a few of them a little while ago.

I agree. And also that they don't have to wow us - we've got high standards, LOL. I hate making cards to sell, but I don't mind selling cards I've made just for fun. And my sister was able to sell almost anything I made; no matter how offbeat a card was there was always somebody it appealed to. You only have to look at the wide variety of styles available commercially, after all.

Well, back to work.
If daily challenges seem a bit much in your normal schedule, even if you pick just one or two in the week that suit you you'll still enjoy the fun and friendship . Or you could take the *challenge* aspect and choose one that challenges you, ha ha. I've got to admit that I still find the sketch and the IC hardest even after the few years I've been doing them. And I did mention I was colour-challenge challenged, I don't even go there.

Good way of ensuring a quiet house, LOL.
I think it's hard with rescue dogs to ever get them totally over the past even if you love them to bits.
I was just remembering one of the guys in work - when he was in his early teens he got a dog, but there were problems and his parents decided to take it to the dog rescue for re-homing. But G was so traumatised by the rescue centre that they had to go back and *rescue* their own dog. They still have him, too.

I agree that the daily challenges are the way to go. Not only do you get to keep up with what the ladies you've "met' here are creating, but if you enjoy the feedback from others it is the definite route to take. Yesterday I posted 2 very similar cards (both using blues and pieces from my desk!) and the challenge card has 172 views and 25 comments while the non-challenge card has 73 views and ZERO comments.
On the recipe front....I woke this morning to the sound of the mixer...yep my son is at it again. Crepes for breakfast with lemon curd and raspberries.

I think "offbeat" is a good word to describe the card I made for the Pickled Tink challenge. LOL The cardstock colors aren't ones I would normally put together, but I felt they worked best with the colors in the image.

I have to admit it was the Resources section that got me in in the first place - but it's through the challenges that I've got to make some good friends - and grown as a card-maker too.

I started out in the SU galleries searching by stamp set to get ideas to CASE. After a couple of years I decided it was time to give back and post some of my own cards, but it was so discouraging to post things and not get comments. I noticed the challenge cards got more feedback and that's what led me there. I LOVE being stretched out of my comfort zone though. Trying out new color combos or techniques, using a layout for a quick jumpstart to a card, or my favorite now....looking at a website and getting inspired. Not to mention getting to see all the fantastic cards that others create from the same source that go in as many different directions as there are stampers. Such a fun way to be part of a community and get to enjoy and expand my hobby too!

I agree with all of you that the challenges do help us grow as card makers. I can't seem to get any inspiration if I don't have a challenge or something to get the gears whirring in the old brain. My job has had me on Brain overload the last two weeks and it has really been nice to come home, stamp and relax. Almost forgot a conference call this morning - guess really I did forget. My supervisor had to call and ask if I was going to join the call. Then I quick jumped on. Good thing I didn't get out of the house really early like I had planned or I wouldn't have been here for the call.
But not getting started until an hour later, meant getting home that much later which today made it 7:40 when I walked into the house. It was a long day! My feet hurt.
I'm not sure I can stamp any tonight, but I am going to try.
Yeah, sometimes I think a card is great and it gets no love in the gallery. It's so nice when at least the challenge host comments on your card. At least you know someone saw it then.
Well, I am rambling - must be tired- but I will give stamping a little while tonight - then it's goodnight for me.

I'm just going to have to get more involved in the daily challenges. My stamping time is relegated to only a few blocks of time each week, so doing challenges like HYCCT is easier because I can focus on several projects during one of those blocks of time. It will take a "mind-revision" to plan on doing daily challenges!

Sorry I haven't posted anything in this chat thread before now. It seems there is only so much time in the day to accomplish everything I need to. Also, truth be told, I guess I'm not what you would call a good "chatter-er." I've always been considered "the quiet one" in my family. I much prefer listening to others talk.

I did want to pop in here, though, and thank Lydia and all the challenge hostesses for the HYCCT initiative. Making and donating my cards for such a wonderful cause has been the best use of my stamping supplies ever!

I, too, got hooked on SCS because of the daily challenges, and all I've learned as a stamper because of them. I keep wondering if my SCS addiction will ever go away, but I guess after all these years of a daily hit from SCS it's not likely.....and THAT, my friends, is a good thing!

Have a great day, everyone! I'm off to check out the Inspiration challenge!

Yeah! I'm all done.
Here is my last package with about 125 cards that I just sent to MD Anderson. Sad to see it finish, but my family is glad they don't have to make puppy dog eyes at me to get my attention.

If you don't mind not getting so many comments you can do the challenges any time. But it has to be said that if you don't do them on the day you don't get so many comments . I can understand that - most of us have pretty busy lives in the real world as well as here.

Because I missed one card when I was packing mine this week I was aiming to finish up with a grand total of 55 today. But I hadn't pasted one link into the tracking sheet and was sure I still needed one more - so now I have 56. At least the second envelope will just fit in a post box and I won't need to queue in the post office again. Sheesh, it was almost out the door last Wednesday! One of the clerks had to move the queue round a bit to fit everybody.

Well, I finished all the challenges. My goal is to make 50, I only have a few more to do, but I completed every challenge. My best friend in San Diego kept telling me I could do it, working full-time 50hr weeks, taking care of the kids I admit it was hard sometimes, but it was fun. He always says to me that I'm always giving to others & it makes a world a better place.
Thanks Lydia & to all the sponsors for a wonderful challenge and for a great cause.

Looking forward to next year.

We've had a couple of vegetarian favourites this week - this was our Friday dinner because I didn't know when DH would be home, and it can be prepared ahead and ready to pop in the oven.
Tomato and Onion Bake
50g butter and extra to grease dish. (that's about 1/4 cup, is that 1 stick??)
2 large onions, thinly sliced. (Large like Spanish onion size, almost)
500 g tomatoes skinned and sliced. (a bit over 1 pound, less than 1 1/2)
125 g fresh breadcrumbs. Sheesh - I've no idea what that is in volume, it's about 4 ounces weight, but I wing it. If there's enough to make a good covering, it's enough...Tonight it was the left-overs of a loaf I bought on Saturday.
Salt and pepper
4 eggs.
Preheat oven to 180C / 375F. Grease an ovenproof dish - sort of small square lasagna size. You need to be able to get something in to serve the portions without breaking the eggs up.
Melt 3/4 of the butter in a heavy-based frying pan, add the onions and cook over a medium low heat for 5 minutes. If you're calorie-conscious you could use sunflower oil instead
At this point, if you want to make it more substantial, you can add 2 red bell peppers deseeded and sliced, and maybe a bit of ground cayenne for punch, and cook stirring occasionally for another ten minutes. I always add the peppers!
Layer the onions / onions and peppers, tomatoes and breadcrumbs in the dish, seasoning each layer. Dot the remaining bit of butter on top, and bake for 40 minutes.
Using a large spoon, press four deep hollows in, break an egg into each and return to the oven for 15 minutes more till eggs are set (I found ten was long enough, actually). It's quite nice with fresh basil layered in with the tomatoes, too.
If you're making the breadcrumbs from scratch, you can always put the butter in the processor with them, instead of dotting it over the top.

There's the first stage of a chickpea and potato curry on the go right now, so that tomorrow I can add the cilantro and fresh tomatoes and heat it up while I cook the rice.

I'm going to have to baggie it too.

I decided NOT to cook tonight since I don't feel so great anyway and just bust thru these cars. I'll have DH pick up something for dinner and I'll go to bed early. Tomorrow what isn't done will get done. I'm at least fast at the copy and paste LOL
