Yep; the library is an awesome resource as we home school. We are in a small, rural town, but our library is linked to a whole system of libraries in Indiana and I can order just about anything we need or even just novels that I want to read, and they bring them in from all around the state for us for free!

Hello ladies...

After an intense staff meeting after school, I need some stamping therapy. Off to check out today's challenge.

We have AWANAs tonight, so I will have to chat with you all tomorrow.

The girls & I go to the library a lot. Good resources for stamp books & quilting. The girls know how to do the research to locate the books they want too.

My kids LOVE the library....they do book club, summer reading programs, etc. In VA my teens were involved in stuff too, but my daughter has a harder time fitting it in with her swimming schedule. The library is a great place for younger kids with all sorts of games, toys, etc and the story times. Then, as they get older, there are incentives for reading and just fun things to do. We love the library. Our oldest daughter has worked there the last two summers and really enjoyed it and they enjoyed having her!

I was having this discussion recently with a Canadian SCS-er. For her she pays an annual fee to the library but reservations are free. For us, joining is free but we pay a 50 cent charge for reserving a book, whether it's just joining the "queue" in the branch to borrow it, or whether they have to bring it in from another branch.

It's a typical Wed night for us....which means driving home with a stop for a bite to eat and groceries along the way....so it's a total of about 4+ hours. I'll be here until 4 my time though.....but I'll miss out on prizes.....I'll pop in when we get home though!

Wow, both are free for us except for when we have overdue items My husband says I'm a great supporter of the library!

Grin - last time I was there the woman ahead of me owed €14. Gosh, she must have had a lot of VERY overdue books. The most I've ever had to pay is 50c. Once a year they have an amnesty for a couple of weeks .

I'm not even going to confess how high my fines have been at times. Our books cost $.25/day and movies are $1. With 7 people checking out books with me checking out up to 50 at a time for our schooling the fines can be astronomical if I let things slip!

50 at a time!! I can see you'd lose track. Our max is 10, though if DH ever bothered getting a card we could have 10 each.

We have a card for everyone in the family, sometimes we don't use one of ours because of the fine that's on it...but eventually they do get paid...the most I spent is $1.25

Well, I can see in my gmail that Lydia's status is lunch .
We had leftover red cabbage tonight. I think I must have made it quite early in October because I remember sharing the recipe here when this thread was a baby - or not more than a toddler. But vinegar is a preservative, yes??

I think I'll have left over Popeyes chicken. That was the splurge to celebrate mom's new job! Course I'm grilling chicken for dinner tonight too. Hmmmm

Well, when I asked V about how full her inbox was, it was in the context of thread notifications, it wasn't meant to be anything personal. It didn't occur to me it could be taken that way. So I was wondering if it was also not the done thing to ask what company people designed for, that's all....There are cultural differences as well as the difference between American and English English . I have a book in my Amazon wish list, actually, about how American English is actually more pure!!
And can you recommend a good all-round bird book too?

That and the Smithsonian one are the two I've been looking at, so it's nice to have a recommendation. Planning for my moddy Christmas already .

We've used the Peterson field guides and as I was looking for a link I found an app for the Peterson guides I'm pretty sure this is the field guide book that I bought through Scholastic books...they often have specials on the guides.

Now you're reminding me of something I heard on the radio the other day about an illustrator who drew all these non-existent funny birds. But I didn't note the name, and I don't even remember what program it was to catch it on Listen Again .
The app looks great, but after researching the price plans for smart phones or an iPhone here, no way José. I currently spend about €10 a month for my non-smart phone. I think the cheapest plan comes in at about €30 a month - and if I had one then DH would want one too .

Do they have family plans over there? I actually don't pay anything extra per month to have the DH on my plan.

Oh and surprisingly, I'm actually cooking tonight instead of arranging chips artfully on a paper plate!
