Does anyone think I can really learn how to knit and crochet from a DVD or videos on the internet? OR do you think you need to have someone there in person showing you how to do them?
A person can certainly learn from a DVD or videos or a book. But it depends on your learning style. Most of the handiwork that I can do - I learned from a book. I've learned lots of cardmaking stuff from videos or written tutorials. Some people need hands-on teaching. I feel like you would be able to do it.

Awwww - thanks Val! I just didn't know if you needed someone there to say, "NO! put the needle THERE, not THERE!" LOL!

Some people might need that. I didn't have videos back when I was learning handiwork. And I didn't have someone nearby who could teach me. The videos should be more helpful than just a book was. Of course having someone there to guide your hands if you're not getting it right would help too.

Still photos in books have confused me with knitting and crocheting in the past - they were fine for embroidery when I used to do that but I could not quite get the hand and needle placement down. I thought maybe videos would be like someone sitting there if they zoom in enough at the right angle.

I think so too. You might need to search around for the best video(s).
Whooo hooo! What a great way to improve a gloomy day than to read through several pages of chatter to find out I actually won something! I love me some Kitchen Sink Stamps! They're like magic!
Thanks Lydia, and Dina for throwing out my number.

Today was adventurous and fun for my budget minded self....I got low worked early and ran some errands before heading home...Decided to run to HL to check on Turkey Day stamp, but since was last min decision, didn't have this weeks coupon....Dang....but a nice lady gave me hers since she didn't find what she wanted....WhooooHoooo Thx nice lady!!! I got the Sizzix pointsettia die for 40% off.....Then heading home, I spy a very well loved (read-missing parts) 3 swing with glider swing set sitting on someones curb for trash pick up....OMG....I'm needing an A frame to make trellis for garden....Do you know what lumber costs these days???....So I slammed on the brakes and backed up....jumped out to check it out, looked around, then pushed, pulled, shoved and lifted that thing into the back of my truck...hopefully before anyone saw me curbside shopping.....YeeHa!!! Yes, I'm a hick...but hey, it keeps it out of the landfill.....and money in my pocket....Yea!! more stamps.....See, there is a method to my madness.....lol!!!

Nothing wrong with repurposing!
Last week I saw a really nice IKEA unit waiting for pickup - it matched the pieces I have in my craft room and is a discontinued collection so I was PSUCHED. I opened all the drawers and inspected it - nothing wrong with it, NO idea why they didn't want it anymore, called hubby to ask him to swing by their house on the way home - not more than 10 minutes later a van with a handicapped plate stopped, driver inspected it and LIFTED IT INTO THE BACK OF HER VAN (ummmm, guess her hubby is the one with the disability? LOL! I would not have been able to lift that and I was told I didn't qualify for the hang tag.) Had to call hubby back and tell him not to bother, wasn't available anymore, LOL!
Wow! Congrats on that curbside bargain! No shame in saving $$.

Sheri -- good find!!! I am not above that myself. I have this gorgeous painted tin tray - like 24" by 40" - big enough to sit on top of my bookshelf and look really pretty. The paint was chipped in places but I touched it up. Picked it up right out of someone's trash pile. Yup. Happy day for me!!

Oh that just stinks....I'd have sat there till he got there....
the really funny part was when I got home, the neighbors kiddos were outside and wanted to know if I got some kids since I was bringing a swingset home.....LOL!!!! Wait until they see my squash and melons hangin off of it next summer.....HEEHEE....
hey we have the "bring out ya dead" once a year on the curbside to throw out your old stuff and "pickers" roam around.... we slow down and spy on things too saves it going to the tip... we saved time (but not money) on a garage sale and turfed very good furniture... too unwell at the time.... and it all went within 24hrs.... happy it went to homes...
I would have sat with it too!! Its the golden rule!
OK, there is no way I have time to read the 20 pages I missed today while I was at work!
Anyone have a summary? My only report is that I stopped at the grocery store after work and somehow managed to buy four types of cheese, including some Laughing Cow, which just happened to be on sale!

Wow, I step away from the computer to get some dinner (left over meatloaf from one meal and leftover pinto beans from another) and there's a ton of posts and even more winners! Yeah!
I hope I didn't miss out on any recipes. My son (sort of a picky eater) has given me the go-ahead for the broccoli cheddar soup and the beef stew. I was looking forward to making them for a rainy weekend, but now it's down to 20 percent chance of rain on Saturday and 40 percent on Sunday. Oh well... we can pretend we're eating a rainy day meal.
I'm finally catching up on the the chats and WOW! I won, I WON, I won a PRIZE!?! heeehheee, happy dance, sit & spin in the chair, now dizzy with joy! Thank you!! Off to check out "Your Next Stamp" site! I would like to be heading to bed about now but need to pick up dh at the airport in a few hours {yaawwnnnn}
