I was told by my local scrapbook store that the Tim Holtz craft mat is going to be sold by the yard...has anyone else heard that, and if so, who has it??
Yes, I've heard that. In fact, he said on the Paperclipping Roundtable that you can order it from local craft stores, but not the "big box stores." I don't know if you can do it now, or if it's something they are going to offer soon.
That sounds great!! I love my mat!!!! The TH one was a little small for my liking so I ordered the Tattered Angels pink one since it is VERY large! I keep my TH one in my scrap caddy to take to crops, I have the large tattered angels one for home.

Oh good! I was hoping it was true but had heard nothing else about it. I have tried the oven liners but they are so thin and some things will not wipe off like they do on my Tim Holtz mat.
I'll have to ook into this. I've been looking for a large mat to protect my table while crafting with my 4 yr old neice and 5 yr old nephew, but I have not been able to find one large enough. The kids are very messy and the whole table tends to get dirty!
I've had one for nearly a year now. LSS in Mass had it. Love it! I keep it over an XL cutting mat. When I want to cut, I just roll it back and place something in front of the roll so it doesn't unroll on me. No need for a misting box or anything since this thing is ginormous! Love it. Highly recommended if you do see it for sale.
Ditto what Vic in WA said. That was the LSS where I purchased mine in store. If not listed online, they will likely take a phone order for you. Nice folks and great store. If ever in the area...definitely worth a stop. I drive an hour plus to get there several times a year.
You can get the mat in larger sizes at Simon Says. It's 3 ft wide and you buy it buy the foot. Each foot is $30 (at this time) and the minimum order is for 3 feet. A 3'x3' mat would cost $90.

I could not find it under search either .I finally found it by clicking "everything Tim Holtz" in the side menu and it came up in the top row. Here is a link for you.
I use on oven mat that I got at Bed Bath and Beyond. It's a great size, same "fabric"/material and was $16 with my 20% off coupon. Love it. I also have a smaller one that is used/sized for toaster ovens that I can take with me or use for little projects! I'm pretty sure there are threads about this out there in "SCS Land".
No, its great for all things "messy". Everything truly just wipes right off. For cutting, use your self healing mat or glass mat depending on your project.
I seem to abuse my mats. Is there substances that should not be used? My alcohol inks seem to seep through. Also some paints. Any advice on how to care for them. They are not cheap. Tks in advance.

I tried the oven mat route; bought it at BBB but when I smeared distressed pads on it and sprayed the ink with water I later found out that it leaked through and was all over my white formica counter top....yuk! So, it went in the trash!

Wow, that is really expensive! I'd like a larger one than I have but I can't afford that and I'd only need about half.

I've been thinking of buying a 2nd mat and using electrical tape or duct tape to tape the 2 together. You can buy the Ranger mats fairly cheaply on Amazon.com Haven't decided yet, if the tape would hold up to using the heat gun. Need to test that before I decide to do it.
