TLC420 ~ Light to Dark ~ (03/11/13)
Hello everyone!! I hope you had a great weekend full of fun and family activities!! Are you ready to get down to business and do a little stamping??
The challenge this week is to create something that has light to dark colors.....this technique is also called Ombre which is defined as "graduated colors from light to dark on a surface". Starting with the lightest shade of a color (any color), use light, medium, and dark shades of the same color to create a background or main image.
For example, you can use the same die shape such as a rick rack pattern...... cut several using light, medium, and dark shades of the same color family card stock. Starting with the light, lay them out on a piece of card stock working from light to dark and adhere. Now, cut the piece to fit your design.
You can also use light to dark colored papers to create a layered flower.
Other suggestions include:
1. Use light to dark shades of patterned paper to create a background
2. Use light to dark shades of pearls as details
3. Paint, brayer, or sponge a background using light to dark inks
4. Be creative...what can you design using light to dark colors??
My sample (I used light to dark patterned paper for the background)
Birthday Blessings
Remember to add TLC420 to the keywords when uploading (no spaces)
You can find the entire TLC420 Gallery here !!
Happy Stamping!!!"

TLC420 Jungle Animals
Joan- awesome challenge! I used Creative Memories paper, along with some blue green DCWV cardstock for my light to dark panels- and CTMH's Wild Animals stamps. Blue green background is embossed with CB's Spots and Dots. Added a jungle flower and some "grass" - an evergreen cut vertically in half, then layered, and tacked down with green mini brads. Here's Jungle Animals

This took forever to dry today, and started to smoke when I used my heat tool. This is the most drama ever for a card! Thanks for the fun challenge, Joan, here is my Sakura card.

It struck me that the easiest way to get graduated color from dark to light is to run to my stash of paint sample cards, so that's what I did. (And I do have a stash of them, some collected for cards and some just left over from actually picking out wall paint). Here's my attempt to use ombre: How does your garden grow by stampingwriter - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

Here is mine. I used a coloring technique by Karen Barber of Marker layering to get the graduated color on the image too.
Thank you Joan.

Thanks Joan. This is such a great challenge! I've had fun just thinking about it even though I haven't been in the stamp room much this week. That should change tomorrow...

Here are a couple of cards I made for this challenge. My keywords work to bring me to the gallery but for some reason the second one doesn't show up in the gallery itself. I must have messed up something.
Ombre Chevron
Ombre Butterfly
As I said before this was an awesome challenge. I wish I had more time to play with it.

TLC420 Balloon Bear
Joan- thanks for the cool technique challenge! For my background I masked my white card stock and swiped my 3 ink pads for this effect. For my bear panel, I used a dry embossed dotted oval panel, highlighted with a green marker and did a page curl effect, touching up the edges with that same green marker. Added a "balloon string" using 2 glue dots and baker's twine (thanks Mary Ellen for the technique)- and used a 1/2 white doily for the lower part of my panel. Finished with a simple bright green fabric tie. Here's Balloon Bear
