Papercraft gift ideas for men--Any ideas?

Most times we, as women, are quite happy with papercraft gifts that we receive from others such as a gift of handmade cards--we can certainly put those to use, but . . .

What papercraft ideas do you have for men/males when you want to make a gift for them?

I haven't made too many gifts for men, but the two I can think of off hand were both for my dad: a set of tumbled tile coasters with masculine images and a set of cards for him to use during the year (e.g., an anniversary card, birthday cards for his siblings, etc.) in a card holder. I can't remember exactly what the cards looked like, but I made sure they weren't too frilly or feminine. But now that I'm thinking about it, I'm not sure if my dad ever remembered to use the cards ...

Oh, and one other: I have an uncle who likes to collect recipes from TV cooking shows (printing them from Web sites). One Christmas I bought a basic three-ring binder, decorated an insert for the cover and filled it with page protectors so he could keep his recipes together.

I have been working on a set of masculine cards for the year that can be used either for a man or by a man. They are in muted colors - browns, greys - and I have been running them past my husband for his okay. ("Would you use this card to send to someone?" "Yes, dear.") Not sure if that helps.
But an idea could be for you to create a set for someone specific, with the dates of when to send certain ones off (like birthdays, holidays, etc), and then some extras.
SU also just came out with a kit for men to create cards. I bought it but haven't put it to the test yet. Here is the link:

You could do an altered photo frame!

I've seen some very nice drawers combined with an easel card on top - you could use the easel for a photo or a calendar.

Post-It note holders and CD clocks are my go-tos for men's gifts.

For the clocks, you can pick up the mechanism and hands in craft stores or online and free CDs are generally easy to find. I glue my CD onto paper, let it dry and then cut round it and stamp a design on there. I did one years ago for DH that was even simpler than that - I used blue white core cardstock and sanded the edges and a little of the face, added a little black ink in places to grunge it up and then stuck dots punched from copper card at 12, 3, 6 and 9 round the edges. He still has it.

The other thing I've done more recently is to alter a larger wall clock. I got a really cheap clock (and it looked it - nasty plastic!) at a discount store and used UTEE, paint, chipboard shapes, masks and stamping to alter it. I didn't think of it as a masculine gift project but it certainly could be! I've attached a couple of pics so you can see that.

I think its hard to do male gifts. I bought some cheap cute jars at Hobby Lobby and put a band around it. I made them for the male teachers so I did two layers in school colors and circle punched layers with a stamped thank you on the top layer. I filled the jar with bite size candy bars. The center of the stamp had a small flower in it so I punched it out and put a eyelet in. It turned out very cute but I forgot to take pictures so I can't share.

I also know people who have made the acetate boxes and they are easy to make manly.

I made altered composition books for men that went over pretty well last Christmas. I used masculine papers and colors, i.e. stripes, woodgrain, etc. and personalized them with their names. I put large metallic eyelets on the corners of the nameplates. The nameplates said "Jack's Book" etc. in an open font that could be colored to match the book.

I wondered if any of the guys would ever use them, lol, but they acted happy to receive them. My granddaughter said her hubby keeps his in his truck all the time and keeps a running list of stuff he needs to get for projects he's working on.

I also took large empty 3-lb coffee cans, covered them with masculine wrapping paper, topped with a bow and matching tag and filled them with mini-chocolate chip muffins. Those were a big hit!

Candy Jar filled with his favorite Candy, Cigars, Nails, Screws, Gift Cards, BBQ sauce,

Wood grain covered notebook with matching pencil.

How about a Altered Tin Creations. You can fill it with whatever you want.

Generally, anything with candy. :-) I've done the wrapped Hersheys Nuggets for my bosses over the years (all men). I've also made tags/labels and put them on a jar of my canned salsa.

I have made 6 x 6 and 8 x 8 scrapbooks that were specifically made for a male: one was gof-themed and the other was retirement-themed. But it could be fishing or hunting themed, etc. I made a pack of cards that were hunting-themed for a Ducks Unlimited raffle. Or how about a SMASH book for a guy?

Hey Sophie, I was going to suggest bookmarks and then read your post. Bookmarks aren't lame - I think they are a great idea. My husband reads ALOT and often has several books on the go at the same time so he appreciates bookmarks (plus they stop him from bending the corner over to mark the page!).

I don't like my feelings hurt by someone returning gifts so I only give cash, checks or money cards as gifts (mostly family). For my brother's birthday check I made this wallet and he loved it! And probably used it until it fell apart.
