Punch lubrication

Hi Everyone! Has anyone tried to lubricate a punch with Elmer's Slide-All? It is a dry spray lubricant. It says on the can no oily stain and eliminates squeaking and sticking. The picture on the front shows it being used on a hinge. The can indicates it contains acetone. I am punching several hundred pieces for a wedding and my punch started acting up and of course i can't quickly/easily find the same punch to buy a replacement, so am trying this Elmer's Slide All. It seems like it has helped. I am hoping it will work well enough to let me finish my project on the wedding cards. But I thought I would ask if anyone else has tried this.

Thanks for the tip, I'm in the same boat with one of my punches and I'll give this a try. Did you get it at michaels?

Hi Carrie, I'm sorry to say I don't remember where it's from but I would guess either Sears or Walmart. Seems like this is going to work. There is no oily residue which is good, because I'm punching corners on white paper.

It's not at Michaels. I have used waxed paper to lubricate and foil to sharpen. I don't use punches a lot, but those two things have worked for me in the past. It's a Martha stewart tip.

I haven't tried what you're asking about. I would recommend that you try the wax paper mentioned above by another poster or, if the wax paper doesn't do the trick, get some lubricant that is specifically made for craft paper punches. Oil and silicone are not archival.

Rub white candle wax along the edges -- purrrrfect (on dies too)

If all else fails, stick your punch in the freezer for an hour or so... the metal condenses.

And try rubbing a cotton swab dipped in alcohol around the cutting area; this will remove the paper dust (which is what dulls scissors).
