Clear stamps are MY favourite, but I have the impression that the vast majority of stampers still prefer rubber, whether it's cling or wood-mounted rubber.
If I'm talking to a stamper, I'll call photopolymer stamps "clear stamps" but if I'm talking to a non-stamper, I'll be lazy and call photopolymer stamps "see-through rubber stamps".
The thing is that clear stamps are made in a number of different ways-some are made from silicone, for instance, amongst other things. The very best ones are photopolymer- they will last the longest, and give the best impressions. Most stamp producers call their stamps photopolymer, if thats what they are, so if they are not described as such, I would ask the question if you were buying some.I think most people still really prefer rubber, or cling rubber, but the good quality clear ones are still usually a little cheaper, so that can often be the decider!
Can anyone tell me the size of the alphabet stamps in the new Stampin Up photopolymer set? They look to be approximately a half inch tall.

But there are so many cute little accents to use with it! And I think part of the point of it was to be able to make quick sentiments without having to use the SAMJ or to put letters in the little banners and stuff! I think it's super cute!

I'm too lazy to spell out my own words.
But I did now see they got their March best of set up. LOVE.
I just need to vent about something, and this is as good a place as any.
SU calls their cling-mount stamps "clear-mount" or "clear". That drives me crazy! "Cling-mount" is a perfectly good term, and was in use before SU even offered such a thing. Why they had to go and give it a different name, which is confusing because there are also clear stamps, is beyond me.
Ok, I'm done. Just needed to get that rant off my chest.

I am right there with ya! I call them cling-mount anyway

I'm with you. Everyone else in the stamping world calls clingfoam-mounted rubber stamps "clingmount." Why SU chose to call them something else is beyond me, and it will lead to even more confusion now that the company is offering truly clear stamps.
I remember when SU started selling embossing folders and called them something really odd and confusing. They did change to common nomenclature. I hope there's a name change in the near future for the "clearmount" stamps. It would be a good move now that the company is selling clear/photopolymer stamps.
I'm a rubber stamp gal, but will try the SU clears if there are images I want. I'm glad the company is trying to appeal to more stampers.

I don't really ike that they use that term either because it's somewhat confusing.
But I do beleive the reason is because to use these stamps you temporarily stick/"mount" them onto a a "clear" acrylic block.

No doubt that's why the company chose the term, but why invent a word when there's a perfectly good one already in use by 100% of the stampers who are aware of clingfoam-mounted stamps? Clingfoam-mounted stamps used with a clear/acrylic block have always been referred to as clingmount stamps or cling stamps. Clear and photopolymer stamps used with a clear/acrylic block are clear stamps or photopolymer stamps.
It was confusing when SU introduced their rubber stamps on clingfoam as clearmount stamps, and it will likely be even more confusing now that the company is offering clear stamps that are, in fact, clear and nothing like the rubber "clearmount" stamps they also offer.
A name change in the new catalog this summer would be wonderful.

It's just the terminology they've used since before clear stamps even came into being. Wa-a-a-a-y back when (we're talking 25 years here!), SU sold stamps in wood-mount and foam-mount. This was even before they sold their own line of stamps. To them, they're simply being consistent. Foam mount, wood mount, clear mount.
I'm happy they've decided to approve a material they have confidence in. I know there are many stampers who love SU's images but refuse to use anything but clear stamps. I'd love to see the day when all of our stamps are available in whichever form we choose.
Let's face it...anything that adds options must be a good thing, right?
