Ready for a new Mix-Ability challenge?!! We hope you're having fun with these! Our goal is to make mixed media, easy, approachable and FUN! We want to convince you that no matter what your style is - you can DO it!
This week your challenge is to use water with water-based or water-soluble mediums on your project to make color MOVE!
The simple principle is this: water breaks down the pigments in water-soluble mediums and causes them to lift and move. There are soooooo many ways you can do this, but here are a few ideas:
1) make a washed background by brushing heavy cardstock or watercolor paper with water then adding color with a brush or other tool
2) color up your cardstock or watercolor paper with water-soluble inks or pigments, then spritz with water and let the colors bleed and run
3) ink up a stamp with water-soluble ink or pigment, then mist it with water before stamping the image to cardstock
4) load up one area of your cardstock or watercolor panel with water, add pigment, then tip the panel to let the color run and drip Some water-soluble mediums you might already have at home:
--watercolor paints (these come in tubes, pencil form, blocks, cakes, pots...)
--dye inks/reinkers, Distress inks/reinkers, Versamagic chalk inks
--acrylic paint
--watercolor or water-soluble markers (such as Tombow, Marvy, etc)
--water-soluble crayons (Neocolor, Gelatos)
Here's a video with 5 different effects using the ideas above. Make sure you use heavy cardstock or watercolor paper thatwon't buckle when it gets wet!

I must be psychic *grin*...used this technique for my background yesterday shown here, but I will be back with another one today. I sponged ink onto a piece of wet water color paper and then dripped water onto to it to make the inks move even more.
Oh, I'm SO using the snow we got last night as an excuse to stay home and play today with ALL those FUN FUN FUN techniques!

ohh Dini..great video and awesome challenge! I also LOVE the idea of recycling the card stock .
I saw once where this artist saved the paper towels she cleaned her brushes on( from acrylic paint) and later used them as a background in MM canvas..I thought that was cool..I usually just use old rags for my brushes though..LOL cheaper than paper towels..HA!
Hopefully I will get to play today..it is ugly and rainy here on the coast..perfect day to play in a challenge!

I made two cards with the one sheet of watercolor fun I made.
After looking at the beautiful cards in the gallery and reading how they achieved their results, and after watching the video tutorials twice,... I finally worked up my courage to make a card for this challenge. I'm pleased with the results. So thanks for the "push" Dina.

Here's my Thinking of You card. I'm a total newbie to mixed media and I've been lurking around for a couple of days checking it all out. You've all done such a wonderful job of sharing tips and tricks in your videos and samples. Thank you for inspiring me to try something new. Well, ok, watercolour isn't really new to me but I haven't done it in a looooong time, so this seemed like a great challenge for my first jump into mixed media. I used my Distress Markers and a water brush to create the background.
