Default Decorating for a party! Help!

OK I will admit mods this isn't strictly stamping but please leave it (for a little bit) as it is the most viewed area of the board...

Does anyone have any experience or advice to hanging sheeting for backdrops? Trying to hide some ugly panelling/large windows/mirrors.

I'm concerned about weight so it doesn't collapse during the event.

Was thinking about using multiple command strips but any advice is appreciated.

Kristen- I have TONS of experience decorating as a prom advisor who refuses to buy cardboard kits. A question...are you allowed to staple, put anything into the walls? If yes... a staple gun is the best, fastest and cheapest bet and you can use a wide ribbon with double side tape or even lightweight molding with command strips to hide the staple line. It really doesn't leave much for marks an the walls either.

If stapling into the walls isn't an option, Velcro is a better option than the straight up sticky strips. The velcro can be secured to the sheeting with glue or thread and needle and should be easy to remove from the surface of walls especially if warmed up with a hairdryer. A bit of goo-gone and noone will ever know it was up.

When we hang yards and yards of gossamer (ok, actually we use black lawn fabric...way cheaper!) for prom, we have wires run across the room and fold the fabric over the wire. We secure with spray-painted clothes pins but you could staple the fabric to itself over the wire.

Send me a PM if you want to talk about the specifics of what you're doing. I promise I'm an excellent problem solver when it comes to creating an event on a DIY budget!

My mom was the proud recipient of my first handmade card. Cost $200.

Oh wow - didn't even think of staples or velcro. I did realize I needed to spread the load because fabric (even thin) can get heavy.

I have two main walls of 70's panelling (one with mirrors which most people don't seem to like at a party), a wall of windows with no treatment on them (think strip mall type situation) and few paneled bump outs to deal as well as HVAC and a plain ol painted wall. We use this space often (it is rented for a family business) and thought it might be a good "investment" to come up with a reuseable solution.

Would love to tent it with wiring but we have less than 6 hours for 3 of us (maybe more but that is certain) to turn it from building to decorated party space.

Will send you a PM when my "host" gets more solid with his plans!!!

Luckily when I got married my mother actually made table skirts so I have table cloths and skirts for the buffet table. We used them again for a cousin's wedding a couple of years ago - we are a complete DIY family!
