Cool Printing Your Photos

Lets chat about printing photos!

Where does everyone print their photos?
Do you go in store and print or upload them and they get mailed to you?
If you upload: Do you upload from your computer or ipad?
What prices do you pay?
Know of anywhere that prints on specialty paper?
Do you add text or other embellishment to photos before printing?

Just curious. I went to target last night and they wanted 25 cents a picture for 1-25 prints, then 20 cents for 25+. SO I got 50. ha!

Scrapping Simply has a sale right now 13cents a print. I've not ordered 4x6 there but have ordered 12x12 scrapbook pages and was happy with the quality. They took about 3 weeks to deliver to Canada, but if you aren't in a rush its a good deal.

I was a life-long loyal Ritz Camera customer and when they went out of business I wasn't sure where to get my photos printed. I went to Walgreens, kissed up to the photo manager and I have been getting great photos and great service. The prices go down with quantities plus they have coupons and specials often. Plus 5x7 for 99 cents.

I have been using Shutterfly. They had the lowest cost ($.09 with a prepaid plan of 500 4X6 prints). When I first started with them they processed in a location nearby so I had my photos the next day by mail. Since they've moved, it can take up to a week. The quality was fine, I could do some minor editing, and I even made a few photo books.
If I need prints sooner, I upload to Costco and then pick them up. The quality is very good at my local Costco and the cost is $.13. If there's a coupon, it goes down to $.09, same as the prepaid plan at Shutterfly so I save postage but have to drive to the next town.
I have friends that upload to WalMart &/or Walgreen's, but the cost is a bit more and those locations are not in my orbit.
I upload from my MacBook, I don't use my iPad for photos.

I use Snapfish. with a prepaid 100 ( I think) they are .9$ I have always had great sucess with them. You can get a couple of different edges. I have uploaded pics from CM memory manager (edited, enhanced, etc.) to them and printed with no problem.

I print my own photos to scrap but....I have used both Snapfish and Shutterfly with good results. mpix is worth checking out and they do print on specialty papers.

Just printed about 300 photos on mpix. They have specialty sizes so I am interested to see what they look like. I wasn't able to try out the metallic or black and white paper, due to the special code I used. The shipping seemed kind of high, 8.00 for one order then 4.00 for another order. They made me do two orders, which is lame. Since I went through all the trouble adding the pictures and putting them in my cart I just rolled with it.

Just this week Improve Photography published their review of online printing labs. Mpix is great, but was not the winner. They declared Pro DPI the winner, with the highest quality prints and the cheapest shipping. I was also surprised to read that Shutterfly and SnapFish had the poorest quality and were some of the most expensive!

The review is published here:

I usually use shutterfly when there is a discount. I don't use snapfish since the last batch I received from them was horrible. I also print a lot at home with the Epson Picturemate Charm - best 4x6 photo printer, the pictures are amazing.

I read somewhere on SCS that Shutterfly prints on the back of the picture the name that you saved it as. That means I can note dates and have them on the pictures. If that's true, that's worth whatever the cost is for me!!! I hate cross referencing 6 months of pictures to figure out the month I took it. I'm gonna check this out for 2013 pics

Jamie, yes that is correct about the information printed on the back with Shutterfly. I think the date & time is automatic, and you have to input the notes. Funny, I didn't realize the date/time thing was special to Shutterfly and was shocked when I had processing elsewhere and it wasn't on there. I'm need that information! I am a little behind on my scrapping

Awesome! Thanks for the confirmation. Automatic date is even better than I thought. I thought I had to note the date for it to print that. That feature really is quite amazing and I'm so glad that after a decade of scrapping...that I have finally figured out this "short cut" for myself! Thanks again!

I use Shutterfly and have them printed at the CVS across the street from me. I actually like the prints from CVS better than the ones sent directly from Shutterfly. Plus, they are ready in an hour. When I want to print different sizes, I usually print at home. If you download Photosheet, a free program, you can print sheets of smaller photos. http://photosheet.en.softonic.com/
