Default How do you store your loose wooden stamps?

I'm in the process of going through my stuff. Should have started this a loonnnggggg time ago but here I am now.

I am starting to take all of my wood mounted SU sets and transferring them to "cling stamps" and putting them in their DVD storage cases. Shouldn't be a big job since I only have about 10 sets to do this to. After that is all said and done, I'll have all my sets in DVD cases and stored in a DVD storage rack.

Then I came across a bunch of loose wooden stamps (various companies) in a bunch of different sizes. I have NO IDEA how to store these.

What do you do?

I use these drawers from Storables. When I bought them, though, they came as 5 drawers, not 3

I store my loose wooden stamps in clear acrylic trays. They are actually clear box-like photo frames that I get at Michaels.

These stack 3 high in a jet max cube (3-drawer unit) or 2 high in a sterilite 5-drawer plastic rolly cart.

Hope this helps!

I store my stamps in 8x10 cases like the ones you get stampin up stamps in. Then they all go in a 100 year old 5-tier Barrister bookshelf. I want my stamps to look classy!! LOL.

I unmounted all my loose woodmounts as well. If you're going to unmount, might as well go all the way! Turn them into cling stamps as well, and store in additional DVD cases by theme.

I store all mine in the clear shoe boxes--each box a different category. Takes up a lot of space but it works for now.

I keep mine in these drawers. I have the stamps indexed in a binder, and next to the image, I write down the number of the box where I can find the stamp. I unmounted all my other ones but these are some that I hardly ever use and I was just too lazy to do them all.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I'll probably go up to Michael's this weekend and see if I can find something that'll work for me.

And since I only make Christmas cards and only have Christmas stamps, I really don't have to worry about "categorizing" them.

I don't have many stamps still on wood mounts. I have a couple of PSX stamps that I won't unmount. Anyway, until I get around to unmounting the others, they are stored in two plastic DVD crates. One crate for Christmas stamps and the other crate holds the rest.

I keep sentiments in a couple of boxes on my desk. Others I keep in a big box in my closet in my craft room.

I love my wood mounted stamps. I keep them in shallow draws (old patent draws) organized by occasion, stamp company etc.

What a truly beautiful studio, Winnie! Everything is so well thought out. It must be a joy to create in there!

That last picture warmed my heart. As a retired librarian, the sight of a good old Kick-Step brought back lots of memories! And you're right - it's the best step stool there is. I used to preside over a herd of them, but mine were always black ;-)!

I use the thicker Stufftainers which I then have standing like books on a bookshelf - I have found this takes up the least amount of space for me:

I also do the 8x10 box frames aka shallow trays or what I have made like drawers - out of Plastic box photo frames from Micheals/hobby Lobby.. Here is a link where I got the idea i heart scrapbooking: My new rubber stamp shelf...I'm in love!!!!
But instead of making that special shelf I bought the cube system shelves from Micheal's the one for 12x12 paper.. And I can fit 2 trays/frames on each shelf. The stamps fit in the frame PERFECT, and until I got my shelves I even just had them stacked on top of each other, But Def. the way to go since all stamps are in one single layer and no digging is required.

I use these 8x10 cases, too, but minus the 100 year old 5-tier Barrister bookshelf - I bet that looks terrific

I've been using these cases for years and they work great for me.

I'm getting ready to start the process of cataloging all of these stamps and organizing them by theme so these cases will fit right into my storage plans.

If I can dismount any stamp from the wood block --- it is removed and stored according to subject matter. I do however have a handful of stamps that are too difficult to remove or are to large to fit any of the blocks that I currently have. I just store them on a cute vintage-y apothecary shelf I found at a thrift store.

Oh, I was so busy having studio envy for Winnie that I forgot to post to the question!

I keep saying I am not going to buy wood mounts and then I keep finding stamps I love that only come as wood mounts. And people who know I stamp keep bringing me bags of stamps from yard sales to go through, and I've found quite a few treasures that way. So despite having no real way to store wood mounts, I now have quite a few and they are not only getting in my way but I have no way to store them so I know what I have. Therefore, I plan to unmount them as soon as possible and make them into clings. Then they can join all my other stamps in my new and very efficient storage system.

I prefer wood mount stamps, which do take more space. For the past 10-12 years I have kept them in the 3 drawer Sterlite cases. The stamps in each drawer were double stacked. That worked pretty good and was very affordable. I also used an index system to help me quickly decide what stamp I wanted. But then I saw the Scrap-n-cube system and fell in love. Ever since then, I have slowly (very slowly with saving a little bit each month plus adding in Christmas and Birthday moneys) been purchasing the 6 drawer cubes. I LOVE them. The stamps are stored single layer and it is so much easier to find what I am looking for. Both storage systems worked well for me because I like my stamps spread out so I can see them, rather than in a shoe box or something similar.

I have a set or architect plan drawers, each drawer has different themes in it, the stamps are easy to find. Only bad thing is the drawers are very big and take a lot space, but I made a cutting station on the top of them, but they cost a lot, but for me they were worth it.
This storage is only suitable for the wooden mounted stamps.

I keep mine in photo boxes from Michael's. Each is labeled by theme, or season. This is the best way for me now. I have collected rubber stamps since 1980. I have way too many and I'd never un mount.

OP here. I think this is something I'm interested in getting for my wood stamps. I don't have a whole lot. Probably fills (well overfills) a plastic shoe box. I'm not exactly sure how many I would need but I was wondering if this is something you can find at Michaels (the only craft store near me) or is it something you can just get online?

Thanks so much. I went to Stampedous's website and Amazon and the shipping was crazy. At least with 123stitch, it's affordable. Thanks again.

One more question. I've never really paid attention to the thickness of wooden stamps but they should fit inside the 1" thick container, right? Or do I need to measure each of them to make sure?

Most of my stamps fit in these but I have some that are thicker and don't fit so you should measure any that look taller. Some of the All Night Media are thicker than 1". Diane

I know this is bad of me. But I store mine on a wooden shelf standing up. I only have a few loose Wood mounted Rubber stamps. So it works for me for now.

But I am looking into getting some of those New Storage boxes from Stampin' Up!

Default Wooden stamps

Here is my solution. I purchased these at the dollar general. (they were more than a dollar). They fit perfectly, and with labels I LOVE grabbing my wooden stamps now!

Default Recycled VHS tape drawers

I had several of these old VHS drawers from when we cleaned out my FIL's house, and couldn't quite figure out how to use them...until I started stamping about 6 months ago! The wood stamps lay fairly well at first, and as my collection grew I stood them up on their sides. So far I've only categorized them with Image, Words, Holiday, and Christmas. I have 2 more sets of drawers, but I do prefer clear stamps - they store much easier in cases or in 3-ring binders!

I have my wood mounted stamps stored in an architect's flat file. As another reader noted, they are big shallow drawers. It hold a lot of stamps and is easy to see as you pull out an enormous drawer filled with a single layer of stamps. I bought mine very inexpensively on CraigsList

Default Wood Mount cases

I have unmounted most of my wood stamps until recently when my right thumb has developed a deterioration in the basal joint or something like that (surgery, casts and rehabilitation will take 12 weeks the doc said. I am not ready to stop crafting for 12 weeks)! When I order new stamp sets from Stampin Up nowadays, if the set has a lot of tiny stamps, I order them in wood mount to make it easier to pick up and handle. But the larger stamps and the background stamps I get in clear mount. Fortunately Stampin' Up! has recently offered their larger wood mount only stamps in clear mount.
PLUS! I have found that Stampin' Up! now has wood mount boxes to replace any of those old clam-shell boxes they used to send their wood mounts in. Any wood mount set you order now comes in these boxes as well. They have half size boxes too! I have recently bought a set of each and have been having a blast putting the stamps I had on wood mount in these new boxes. Stampin' Up! also has on their web page a .pdf file for the inserts that you can download and then fill in with the name of the stamp set and number of stamps. You just print it out, trim it and slide it into the covers of these boxes. Now all of my stamps, excluding the photo-polymers, are sitting on my bookshelves here in my studio. and print for these storage boxes. Plus one full sized one holding markers, and 2 halves (which stack on top of each other) holding my rhinestones and the new candy dots brad covers from Stampin' Up!. Just go over to the Stampin' Up! website and do a search for the "New Wood-Mount Cases".
I am a demo for Stampin' Up!, but still too new to have a webpage started up (not at those prices anyway!). I hope to figure out how to do one cheaply soon! ;)

Smile Stampin Up PDF file

How do I find the Stampin' Up pdf file for the new wooden stamp cases? I looked on the company website and couldn't find it.

Default luv2stamp

I am not sure if you are asking about the boxes or the pdf file for the labels for the boxes. The video is here
The full sized wood mount boxes are here . The half sized boxes are here

The label templates for the boxes I can find easily on my demo log in, but I am not sure where they are for customers. My Upline is at the convention right now so I can't ask her.
If I am allowed to put the files on this post, I will, if not, I can email them to you.
I have attached them, I hope they show up. I also have the template for the regular stampin up cases labels. All you have to do is type in the title, it will automatically go to the side and the number of stamps in set.

I just found a link to the cases I use. They are a little flimsy (two hands!), but they dont take up much room, they protect the stamps and when they are stacked, they fit well. And I think, for how many stamps they hold, they are inexpensive.

I dont think I will ever unmount my rubber stamps ... I have tons of PSX stamps that I won't ever unmount. So, I will be buying more of these, now that I found them again!
