Sew Easy?
Has anyone purchased the Sew Easy and if so what did you think? I'm can't use a sewing machine, so this seems like a good option for us "sewing impaired". Any suggestions would help.
Thx

I bought it!
I think it is pretty cool, especially for the price.
It doesn't result in the SAME look you'd get doing machine sewing, but it is a good tool for those who can't/don't want to use a machine.
I have kind of a hard time keeping it straight, but I could use a ruler, I guess. Hadn't thought of that until just now, haha.

I saw this demo'ed on HSN during a craft show, and it really looked neat - then I looked online and read some reviews.....
I agree with Amber, not worth the money. Mostly folks said it wouldn't really poke holes in cardstock, just thin pattern paper. They said it made little indentations, and then they had to go back with a piercing tool to actually make the holes to sew through.
So, junk.

No offense to anyone, but I actually disagree.
I have punched through three layers of Bazzill cardstock before, and I am a 125-pound girl.
I haven't tried more than that, though, so can't vouch for heavier-weight cadstock or more layers.

Not offended at all...so glad you got one that worked well. I think sometimes the quality control is hit or miss on some of the tools we purchase because there are always differences like this.
And actually, about reviews (and people ) in general, it does seem that people are more inclined to complain if they don't like something than to say how good something is.

Mine works great. I got the "official" soft mat with all the heads in a bundle deal -- maybe that makes a difference?

I read some reviews on another board that said that soft mat makes all the difference in how well it works. I just got one last weekend and haven't had a chance to try it yet. Hope it works well.

I've also read/heard that the mat makes all the difference. For those who hate the tool were you using the mat with it?
Those who have the mat can you post your experience when you use the tool with and without the mat?
Thanks. I have been thinking of buying this tool and would like to hear more.

Oddly enough, I don't have the "official" mat. I did use a self-healing mat meant for use with an eyelet setter, but it isn't the "official" Sew Easy one.
I did use it once without the mat, and found that to be a bad idea for two reasons:
A) It didn't work as well.
B) It punched holes in my desk!

I just got an email from my LSS that they've got it with all the different heads in stock and I'm interested but just not sure it's worth it.

Thread is Important
Don't know about the Sew Easy, but I know a lot of card makers like the Janome Sew Mini Heavy Duty Sewing Machine. (You can find them on sale for as little as $50.00).
Just from my experience with a regular machine and sewing on paper - cheap thread does not work well. Using good thread like Coats and Clark cotton thread works well on paper.
Just my two cents.

I saw on another board that using a mouse pad worked as a substitute for the mat. i tried it and I get much better indentations. However, the tool hasn't gone through the paper all the way yet. I will continue to experiment before returning it. HTH.

They seem to be mentioned a lot on the "What do you wish you hadn't wasted your money on" threads.

My experience: the Sew Easy was a waste of my money.
I replaced it with the Janome Sew Mini which I bought for $50 and free shipping. The Janome is a quality machine that will outlive me

I love my Janome Sew Mini - it's great for those of us who don't get along with big sewing machines.

I bought mine during the launch on HSN. I can't say I love nor can I say I hate it. It is a hit and miss with me.
