Default Substitute for Gold/Foil cardstock

I haven't even made my card yet, but wanted to share this with you guys.

I need to make a 50th Wedding (Gold) Anniversary card. So, of course, I wanted to use gold on the card.

I went looking at Hobby Lobby and Joann, and the only gold cardstock they had was not a pretty gold color, and it cost $1.99 for one sheet.

So, I found a roll of heavyweight gold foil wrapping paper for only $2.99 and used my coupon on it.

Viola' - I just cut a piece, ran it through my Cuttlebug with the D'Vine Swirls embossing folder.

It turned out great! Now I can make my anniversary card, and I will have enough "gold" to last me for a stamping lifetime.

Of course, it's not heavy enough by itself. I will attach it to a piece of cardstock.

Here is a pic of my sample piece:

That's really pretty. I love the patterns on Christmas paper (especially the foiled ones) and used it a couple times on my Christmas cards. Here is one I uploaded to my gallery a couple years ago: ADFD Challenge #7 - Its All in The Wrapping by cat_woman - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

Thanks, Cat. I love Christmas paper, too. Love what you did with it on your card.

A little OT, but I was just at my daughter's house yesterday. She has 7 children under the age of 12! Anyway, she found a use for some of the leftover (not very pretty) Christmas paper she had.

She had a whole huge piece of it turned white side out, taped to her wall, and the kids were all making a wonderful mural on it.

I said how neat it was, and "Where did you get the big white paper?" Christmas wrap turned over! Having 7 children makes you very creative.

Wow! 7 Children! I bet you have to be pretty creative and come up with money saving ideas with 7 children that age. Good use for the wrapping paper. I've used to cover my craft table when I'm doing messy work like spraying adhesives or shimmer sprays.

Great idea, especially embossing it. I have purchased the same thing @ M's, only I bought the glitter wrapping paper. It's not as heavy duty as yours, but, again a cheap substitute for glitter paper. And, as you say, I have a lifetime supply now.

Great idea!

You might want to consider adhereing your paper to a base and then embossing - it's just easier when you want to work with embossed piece if it has a sturdy base.

Another idea is to coat a piece of cardstock with adhesive, cover with aluminum foil (wrap edges to the back of the cardstock), emboss with embossing folder, and then color with alcohol ink - the gold is pretty, not to mention all the other color possibilities.

I found some really nice glitter and metallic gift bags at the dollar store and cut those up. I got the big ones and have a lot of it to use. Check them out too.

I bought a dollar silver Xmas bag at 75% off which made it a quarter and it goes a long way.

I finished my card using the gold foil wrapping paper. I used my ATG to adhere the paper to cardstock and it worked great. Here is the card:

If anyone needs a good poem for a Golden Anniversary, here is what I printed for the inside of the card:

One by one each year flew by,
Since you both said “I do”
Fifty years of memories,
Shared by the two of you.
From big events and holidays
To simple daily pleasures,
Some tearful times along life’s way,
Some joys that can’t be measured.
One by one each year now gone,
But still they’re yours forever,
Each and every memory,
Of Fifty years together!

Happy Golden Anniversary

I use a lot of foil wrapping paper and I love embossing the really "holographic" stuff or even using it flat. Since it is somewhat hard to work with as is, I usually run a piece of lighter-weight card stock through my Xyron, lay the wrapping on top of the adhesive and then use---either in an embossing folder or as is. You card is just beautiful, Bugga in OK!

Awww, thanks everyone. It is a very special card because I introduced this couple over 50 years ago! Gosh does that make me feel old.

I was working at age 19 as a secretary at a law firm, and this other young woman came to work there. We became good friends quickly. I introduced her to a guy I knew from highschool. They fell madly in love, got married, and here we all are - 50 years later!

They are having a celebration February 23, and she asked me to give the toast. I said it's pretty dangerous to ask someone who knows all those old stories about you, lol.

I'm really looking forward to it.

Bugga- Oh my gosh your anniversary story is so beautiful. Big congratulations to them.

I love your card. You did a beautiful job.

I am addicted to wrapping paper & gift bags. I probably have more wrapping paper and gift bags than I do pattern paper.

I love the ideas of wrapping paper as a mural. Your DD is a smart girl.

I, too, use gold wrapping paper on my cards. One of the things I love to do is punch out a design, then layer it over the gold paper- it looks really nice. Here's a bookmark I did that on (the two end designs are the punched ones- the center is embossed):

Contrapat that is awesome! I love the idea and the bookmark is absolutely beautiful! I always think to do it but forget to punch and layer with gold paper when the time comes to make the card. I am now starting tips, techniques and also, a frugal folder in my ipad and then printing it out. By doing this I can put it in my idea binder right away. When I am stumped, I can use these techniques, tips etc. I love the frugal link as well.

Thanks ladies for being such incredible woman! I recently got my vision back after a long at struggle without it and love this community. I really want to thank you all for inspiring me so much! I hope and pray that I can be as helpful and encouraging as you all are.
Hugs & gratitudes

Jasmine- Hugs to you. I am so happy that you have gained your vision back. I have two loved ones who are going blind. It is just tearing me apart. One of my loved ones was on a suicide watch. I worry every day about losing him. Reading your words brings me hope. I keep saying "Modern medical miracles" over and over again hoping it's true. One of my loved ones is showing improvement even though she will be blind in one eye forever. The doctor thinks he can save her other eye. Modern medical miracles. She is in her late seventies.

My other loved one is just a young college boy. His was caused by a birth defect. He showed signs of improvement but he had a rebellious stage in his life where he got hooked on drugs. The drugs destroyed the rest of his vision. No hope for him. :(

Thank you for your sweet post. It truly touched me.

Thanks for the tip about frugal folders in our tablets. I have a frugal folder on my computer. It's HUGE! I need to make one for my tablet.

Pat- I swear you can take anything and make it beautiful.

You all know we are going to be scouring for wrapping paper next time we are shopping.

HINT: Tuesday Morning. It's cheap to begin with, often very fancy and different rolls of wrap, and best of all- marked downs and sales on marked downs!!!

Has anyone tried genuine gold foil wrapping ( thin like aluminum) does it work? What do you use to affix it on to your cardstock. Thanks

Lylacfey,
Wow, I am so humbled by all your family has gone through. My heart, thoughts and prayers are for you and your family. I can still feel those time like it was yesterday and its been a few years. I have a pit in my stomach every time I go for an eye institute appointment. I had a corneal issue that was suppose to offer a surgery that is said to be successful for others but it took 7 defeats and the 8th try before it took. I use to think miracles were never for me but for others.. if you only knew just how much! I have had my roller coasters with it. I do not wish it on anyone and often feel guilty about having my sight because I was once without.

If you ever need to chat. I have been through it in both sides (being the family of somene who is going through it and going through it myself.Oddly enough, it has been quite the adjustment seeing as well but of course, there are no complaints. Just heartfelt hope/prayers everyday for the other families out there who also struggle. I just hope that they find peace in whatever their circumstances may be...May they always feel like they are not alone, and may they have loved ones such as yourself to be there for them. Thank you on behalf of your family..we may be moody and tough to be around when we go through it but thank you for being there. I wish someone had said that to my family for me so I say it to you instead.

I will always be available to you should you need me.

My Tuesday Morning is soooo expensive. Does anyone else shop at Tuesday Morning and not see all the good deals we read about? I get so jealous when I hear about all the good deals.

I am also thinking I don't have the Tuesday Morning talent. My Mom seems too. She bought me an expensive ring from Tuesday Morning. I got it yesterday as part of my Valentine's Day gift. She got the ring for a great deal. She was so proud of it.

I gave her a list of items to look for at Tuesday Morning. I guess I need to add some more.

Thank you on behalf of your family..we may be moody and tough to be around when we go through it but thank you for being there. I wish someone had said that to my family for me so I say it to you instead.

I will always be available to you should you need me.
Jasmineh- Thank you for your kind words. You made me cry.

Does anyone know if Canada has these stores? Is Tuesday morning a craft store?
Where I get my foil and silver
After Christmas Costco has some of their Christmas wrap on clearance. Some are even double sided. Even prior to the discounts, they are pretty reasonable considering the size and beauty of These foil wraps.

****For silver***** ..I found this amazing contact paper in stainless steel at Home Depot. It looks so authentically stainless steel or silver. Comes in large sheets and a,ready has a sticky back. By the way, it embossed so well!!! Best part, after you emboss it is peel and stick
Hope this helps someone

Thanks for the Home Depot tip. I will look at it. And I so agree about the cost of wrap vs. the cost of metallic cardstock by the sheet. The Joanns near me and also Hobby Lobby want $1.99 for one piece of 8-1/2 x 11.

I am certainly willing to go to a little trouble and attach gift wrap to cardstock for that much difference in price!

We don't have Tuesday Mornings in Canada, at least not in my area. I've never been to one, so I'm not sure what kind of store it is, but I know its not a craft store. I think its more like a department store.

It's like Big Lots (if you know those) They have closeout items from manufacturers at discounted prices. Kitchen, clothing, food, crafts, household, lamps, rugs, seasonal, etc. They're just nicer items than Big Lots.

And I haunt my local TM- they mark stuff down, and if you're on the email list, they notify you of sales- like 50% off clearance stuff (my personal favorite!). I buy stationery type items there for altering, too.

I keep forgetting about TM mailing list. My Mom loves to show me the ads. She haunts TM too. She is really talented at shopping there. Thanks for writing they have rugs. I forgot about that too. I need to price rugs.
