Back in June of 2010 we were presented with a challenge by Jennipher that I truly enjoyed. Because patterned papers are one of my favorite scrapbooking supply items, I am asking you to challenge yourself to play in that challenge again.
Your challenge is to create a page using a least 3 different patterned papers that all include one common color palette. The patterns may be different sizes and styles but using the one common color will be what unifies the design.
There are many tricks to using patterned papers effectively, this is just one. This is not monochrome Im suggesting here. When you are selecting your patterned papers, you are looking at the entire color palette. Usually there will be a few colors, such as rose-cream-sage or maybe purple-lime-turquoise within the pattern. Or any one of many other color combinations. Pick at least 3 papers with the same idea of color and try them together, no matter what the patterns are.
A suggestion made right here on Splitcoaststampers by Jennipher in May of 09 is to use this combo of patterns: florals and plaids, dots and stripes, botanicals and flourishes, hearts and diagonals, paisleys and checks.
I hope you will unlock any barrier that may have held you back from mixing your patterned paper stash and try this challenge.
So glad you like this challenge Patti! It sure is one of my favorite thing to do on my layouts. I used to use a lot of solids for my backgrounds, not lately though.

you know, we have some advantages to being a hostess, the most important one being that I got a sneak peek at the challenges ahead of time so that I could make samples... a head of time!, but I got to thinking what fun would that be, the excitement for me is to scrap and chat all at the same time, but now I am sort of wishing that I had scrapped... a head of time, LOL! cuz I am missing all the chat!!!!! :(
I have most of the challenges done but there are a few I will need to do at the same time as others will be doing them. It does pay to be a hostess ans see all the challenges ahead of time.

I like the advantage, too, of knowing in advance. I was off work today so I could scrap. I'm thinking about calling out tomorrow but not sure my excuse would go over too well.

Ok, costumes done, now I need to figure out the projects my customers are doing at my SU workshop in the morning. Yes, I've got too much going on at one time.

I was able to get some of them done early as well ... I love that option of being a Hostess. I do need to do a few. I forgot to charge my camera battery so I've had to wait to photo and upload.
This one I needed to embellish, back to add my upload soon

OK. I'm off with the time bit...I thought the next one started at 10...I've been really bad with remembering things since DH started his new business and I've been trying to help out since I was laid off from the other one. Way too much on my mind ALL the time now!
Oh well...good thing I do digi cause if I had to do this one with real papers, it would look pretty bad! I'm not very good at all trying to coordinate things!
I have tons of pattern paper, so it was easy finding ones that coordinated. Used a pink, teal, white combo for some Christmas trip photos just to be different.

Well, I finally got home so I could play! I guess you all started without me!! Better late than never. Here is Mom & Me . I did another heritage page. I do about one or two a year! One of these days I will have an album! LOL.
Thank you for the challenge. I really like using the patterned papers.
