I have just bought nearly all the spectrum noir markers and I love them but I keep seeing all these cute cards done with copics. Do you think there will be more SN stuff done soon? I don't know if I should start picking up the copics now? I wish they came in sets like SN.
I would say no. Don't worry about Copics. They have been popular longer so you're going to see more with them. But those cards can still inspire you - Spectrum Noir are terrific alcohol markers and they blend beautifully.
I do think you'll be seeing SN more and more. I started with Copic Ciaos and then realized that I like the more firm brush tip on the Original better. Soon after, I discovered SN and gave them a try. They work better for me. I should sit down and analyze it - I don't know if it's the colors or that they blend more easily, but I enjoy using them much more.
I may end up selling my Copic Ciaos - I always choose the SN first now.
The Copic Ciaos came in sets of 36 when I bought mine on sale, a set at a time, but it was still a big investment. The SN markers and sets are much more affordable.
They're both alcohol markers so you should be able to accomplish the same things with them. Copics has a slightly larger color palette but I'd expect SN to add more as they gain in popularity.
Oh My Goodness have you checked out the Spectrum Noir website? there are tons of samples on there, with step out tutorials. As well as the Spectrum Noir Facebook page. I think if you go to those websites you will see loads of samples and some amazing work. Give it a try. Spectrumnoir.com

I agree with Kate - you'll find that there many different brands of alcohol markers used here with wonderful results. We can all learn from each other, regardless of the brand we use, and different alcohol marker brands play nicely together too! Any tutorial you see for another brand of alcohol can be applied using the markers you have.
If I mix brands of alcohol markers on the same project, will I get the same (or at least similar) results as if I had used one consistent brand, or will there be a noticeable difference?
I have not investigated the Spectrum Noir markers. I have tried to figure out if there is a good Copic match to SU inks, but no one has ever answered that for me. How about Spectrum Noir - are they matches for SU inks? I realize you need three alcohol markers to blend when coloring, but think that most times you could get the three with three colors of SU ink, mixing current colors and retired colors. So does anyone have threesomes that go with SU inks for Noir or Copic? I hate to end up with colors that don't go, since I am exclusively SU ink. That is the reason I have not started buying any alcohol ink markers.
binx-I am fairly new to the whole alcohol marker thing, but in my opinion, yes--you can use them together and get the same result as if you had used all one brand. BUT--I am hoping one of the more artistic, experienced marker users will jump in here with their opinion. I am just learning to blend colors, but I see no difference in MY final product whether I use all one brand or mix brands.
