I don't want to get slammed here, I am just asking because I would like to understand. Why do people put music on their blogs and attach the player at the very bottom, making the person looking at their blog search for the player to stop the music?
I just keep the volume down on my computer so it is not so bothersome.

I think they think it sets a mood or they think you want to know what they like to listen to it. Luckily when I blurf I am usually looking through Google Reader so I don't hear it much, unless I'm hopping and not just looking at my favs.
When I did my design team call for my store, having a music player that assaulted you when you got to the page was an automatic disqualifier.
I don't like the music on blogs either. It usually scares the crap out of me. Good thing I disconnected the speakers to my computer and only use headphones now 'cause most of my blog surfing is done late at night or in the wee hours of the morning.
I just keep the volume down on my computer so it is not so bothersome.
This is what I do, too. Since I don't even have a blog, I won't be critical of what someone does with their very own blog.
It seems to me that a blog is a personal thing, and that people probably start a blog to express themselves, either in words, pictures, music, or all three.
I'm all for personal expression, free speech, etc. all that. Music is just another way of expressing yourself, I think.

I agree, the music should be stopped and let the viewer decide whether they want to listen to it, especially if there's something the blogger wants to share. There are other ways to get the reader to listen rather than just have it automatically play. Also, I have "carrier pigeon" internet service so at peak times sites that have too much content take a really long time to load.
I have to agree, I hate clicking on a blog and getting music. My craft room was always next door to my sons room, and he worked nights, so it was especially annoying to me. I love music, don't get me wrong, but I have music playing I want to listen to. We don't all have the same tastes, so its not really very likely that the blog owners taste will be the listeners- I'm a heavy metal fan- it wouldn't cross my mind that my visitors might want to hear Metallica/Slipknot etc .
Like most of the posters above, I don't like blogs that have music. I refuse to follow any blog with music because it annoys me so much.
I don't much like music on blogs either, so when I'm going blog-hopping, I just turn my volume off on my speakers. I don't want to miss content that I might enjoy just because of the music.
