Default A little behind - using hat pins

I bought the Pretties Kit SU offered a few years ago. I loved the idea of using hat pins on my cards. I've searched the gallery and found some beautiful works of art. My problem? I cannot seem to get them to work! I "attached" to the ribbon I had but it made the ribbon buckle and the pin didn't lay flat.

Are there tricks? Do I just need to keep trying? Do I give up? (No, never)

Just some ideas, suggestions, etc. I feel so incompetent!

I like to stick pins through the knot of a bow:

I have found that if I'm happy with the bow or knot I've tied that the pin won't affect it.

OR.... try sticking pins into a dimensional that's popping up a sentiment!

(can you tell I love stick pins??) Have fun!

Thank you for the ideas. I kept getting "puckered" pieces of whatever so I'll just keep experimenting. I think I'll go through the bow, too. That will probably be the easiest. i love the look and am just having troubl recreating!

I love the hat pins. Where would I buy colored hat pins like those I have seen on members' cards in the Gallery?
