My husband and youngest son dragged me away from my crafty corner for New Year's Eve to see the movie The Hobbit. It was awesome! If you have seen the movie, then you know that there is much to be inspired by for scrapbooking there! In particular, I loved Wizard Gandalf talking about the 5 Wizards of Middle Earth - a White Wizard, Saruman; two Blue Wizards "who's names he can't even remember anymore"; a Brown Wizard, Radagast - whom I was totally enchanted by, LOL; and Gandalf himself in Grey.
Today's Challenge is to use White, Two Blues, Brown and Grey on your page. OR, use this fun cheat sheet of facts about the movie to be inspired, there's even a link to the trailer for the movie.
I will post my sample tomorrow once I've had time to sit and play - and once I've gotten up, as I"m pretty sure I'll be sleeping in and then making Apple Crisp for breakfast
Happy New Year!!
PLEASE NOTE!* Although this is in the digiscrap threads, anyone is welcome to play--whether they're a digi, paper or hybrid scrapper.* Just as the digiscrappers, when doing a traditional challenge, sometimes have to change up the instructions a little to fit their digi needs, the traditional scrappers might have to improvise on some of the digi techniques.* It should make things interesting!"
If you have questions, you can post them here or PM me.
You can view all submissions for this challenge here: DGSC095
To add your page to this gallery and the monthly scrapbook gallery just add DGSC095 and SBC13JAN when uploading. Also, please take a minute to post a link to your sample page on this thread so we wont miss seeing your work!
Have a great week! I look forward to seeing your layouts.

Just yesterday DH and I were just talking about the fact that we neither read any of the Tolkien books nor saw the movies. Sounds like we missed a good thing. Maybe I'll have to rent one of the movies so I can get into making a page for your challenge, Terri!
My daughter's in-laws gave DGS the 6 book series of the Chronicles of Narnia for Christmas (trying to encourage him to read more). They were talking about the Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and this series. I've never read any of them...even in school. (although they may not have been around when I was in school ;)) I had a girlfriend who gave me lots of romance novels to read so I never got into other types of reading. But I could work with the colors! I'm going to try to incorporate as many of the challenges as I can into the 365 project this year...thanks for the inspiration and Happy New Year...hope you got to sleep in late. Even though DGS fell asleep at 11:59, we were up by 7:30 which is pretty late for him With all the caffeine I had at the bowling alley, I think it was closer to 1:30 a.m. before I finally fell asleep watching TV.
The Chronicles of Narnia are great books! Some he may also enjoy and read without complaint are the How To Train Your Dragon series! Not too serious and not too intense to read and very silly - great for reluctant readers! I have to admit I've not read the Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit, but I did enjoy the movies! The books are very old, I'm sure they were around when you (and I) were in school! I think the color challenge will be fun!
I did sleep in a bit. It's a glorious day here, the sun is shining! I have apple crisp in the oven for late breakfast - YUMMY!

Loved the movie!
The reason Gandalf can't remember the other two names is that they're in a different book ... and NewLine doesn't have the rights to that book! ;)
Don't know how old your son is, but I had a reluctant reader as well. He got hooked on books on tape early on and is continuing the habit at 22 y/o. You can get them at the library or if he has an ipod, etc, can download onto them. We all listen to some form of audio books in our cars when coming and going from work or shopping and esp on long car trips.

He used to listen to ones on tapes when we went on vacation trips. He just turned 9 and unfortunately is being MADE to read at school. Our school district seems to be a stickler now to get all students to read at their grade levels and beyond and DGS just isn't the sort to read unless he's got something he's really interested in like a recent magazine I bought him about remote control cars. That one he sits and reads from cover to cover without anyone telling him to do so but get that library book from school out and suddenly he's too busy with the dog to read Or he's too hungry to concentrate...lots of excuses come to light
He started to read the first one in the series of the Chronicles tonight and seems to like it so far so here's keeping my fingers crossed!
I started to work on the color challenge for this one yesterday.
Terry, I can't wait to see your page! Are you getting a better handle on the new PSE now?
Here's a link to the How to Train Your Dragon books for DGS too. There's a movie you can watch with him after he's read the first two (I'm pretty sure it covers those first two).
I unpacked a new set of kits last night that I've got early to make the pre-release ads for and one of them is a hobbit themed kit in those very colours!
I'll have to wait until mid-week next week before showing you what I create with it.

I really haven't explored the new one yet too much...just trying to work with what I already knew.
That link looks pretty cool. I'll save it and bring it out when I allow him on the computer (gotta to limit it or else he NEVER gets off!) Thank you! Those books look pretty neat...he likes it when there is a series and he likes to read them in order so I think he'll like these.
Love your pages Wendy! Great use of those earthy colors on a camping page!
Thanks, Terri. I looked at some Hobbit images online and forest and camping photos came to mind! This challenge really motivated me once I got to thinking about it!
I decided to give this Hobbit Challenge a try & I finished 2 pages for it tonight! I was so excited but when I went to take the photo to upload my camera needed to be charged & I CAN'T FIND THE CHARGER....AAAUUUUUGGGHHHH!!! I must have put it where I'd know exactly where it was during the holiday last minute clean up (AKA stash fest). Well maybe I'll find it tomorrow night or fess up to my husband & borrow his camera. I can see where digi would elminiate this problem!
Well, Lou Ann, you still have to know where your camera is to upload to pics to your computer to USE on the page! Just sayin! lol
I can sure relate to putting something somewhere so you'd know EXACTLY where it was. I do that a lot when I'm cleaning for parties and holidays! I've sometimes resorted to keeping a file in my computer with a list of things and where I've put them! Pretty bad, huh?

You are certalinly right about the pics...never thought of it that way...LOL!!
That is pretty bad...hehehe! I'm not sure I could be that organized. I do have a good friend who just started cataloging her stash in her stamping room. Maybe I'll try once I'm retired because it would certainly help!
Well found the camera battery charger, charged the batteries, took the photo, edited & sized the photo. Now I can't get the photo uploaded...well maybe I'll have better luck tomorrow!! I didn't see The Hobbit but do they have special powers or cast spells on unsuspecting scrappers????? :p I haven't had good luck getting these uploaded!!

Ha ha! That's too funny. Hope your luck gets better!
