I am contemplating these and would like your feedback. I line the inside of my A-2 cards with white cardstock and add the sentiment. I detest cutting that liner and these mat dies would make life easier.
Convince me or talk me out of it...please.;)

They are all good ones. Either of the matting basics would be good to start with. It depends on how wide you want your border to be that determines which set to buy first.

I've been drooling over them. I hate making the inside liner necessary for Operation Write Home cards and these look perfect, but expensive. When I was looking around for them last night, Scrapbookpal had them for $19.99 with free shipping on orders over $25. I order my adhesives from her because her prices are the best I have found on most items and she pretty much mails the same day so I usually have my order in 2 to 3 days.
how can i be confused by rectangle dies? my basic card is 4 1/4 by 5 1/2. i usually mat with 1/8" borders, so that would be 4 x 5 1/4, then 3 3/4 x 5 and then 3 1/2 x 4 3/4, neither set with the measurements given makes sense to me. what size card are they meant for?

If your basic card is 4 1/4 by 5 1/2 then the mat being 1/8 smaller would be 4 1/8 x 5 3/8. You were taking off a quarter inch not an eighth.
The biggest mat in the A set in the links above would be the one you would want.
i would need to take off 1/4" to get a 1/8" mat on each side. but either way i cant figure out the mat sizes of the spellbinders, they dont seem to add up for a 4 1/4 x5 1/2 inch card
I recently purchased both A and B but haven't had the chance to play with them as yet. Hope to soon. I like to use wrapping paper for Christmas card fronts and thought these would make cutting the wrapping paper straight easier.

The largest die in the Basics A set starts out with a 1/16" border and then goes in 1/4" increments from there. If you want 1/8" increments, you would need both the A and B sets. There is added interest with the 1/16" border on the initial layer. Sounds crazy, but it makes a difference in the finished card.
These sets are based on the same incrementing as the Nestabilities, 1/4" with one set and 1/8" using two sets.

i apologize for being completely stupid, but someone has to tell me what i am doing wrong. for set b the first die is 3 7/8 x 5 1/4, so that means the mat on the short side would be 3/16" on each side and on the long side it would be 1/4 in. right? then the second die is 3 3/8 x 4 5/8, so the mat on the short side would be 1/4 on each side and on the long side it would be 5/16 on each side. then it starts with 1/4 on each side. i dont see where i get 1/8" mat and on the set a the first mat is 1/16" and the it goes to 1/4"
what on earth am i doing wrong? i have a chart that i made up trying to figure out how to make this work with a 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 card.

People are talking apples and oranges.
Talking about the matting of the layers created by the dies has no bearing on the original mat of the largest layer to the card (which is what is of interest to you and me). HTH

I have set A and use the second largest die to line my cards. It gives me an even 1/4" border around all sides. I only make 4.25x5.5 cards. For an 1/8" border you would use the largest die in set A.

You are not being completely stupid at all. It confused me as well until I realized that there is a typo in the largest die size in set B. The largest die is 3-7/8 x 5-1/8. That is 3/8 inch smaller than your card base, or it gives you 3/16 inch borders all the way around.
Basically the die sets, if you have both, go this way:

Oh wow. I hope that is right - I still haven't heard from Spellbinders. I'm to the point of seeing is believing and would like to see the cut outs from the die on a card. Off to look.

Lori92760....I didn't know whether to laugh or cry as I saw your increasing frustrations over the course of this forum. You are NOT stupid. You are right.
I bought Set A and Set B. Someone in this forum said they work together as other Nesties do and that's right. One set gets you 1/4" border. Two sets together gets you 1/8" borders.
There is, as you've pointed out, an exception to this:
The largest die in the "A" set only leaves a 1/16th border on your card base.
The largest die in the "B" set leaves a 1/4" border.
No matter what you do you don't get a 1/8" border.
They distinctly say, in their sales pitches, that these sets are based on an A2 size card, which is 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 and that you will get 1/8" borders. You do get 1/8" borders everywhere else and I use them all the time, but the primary reason I purchased them was because I almost always do a 1/8" reveal panel to start off my cards. I thought, great....no more fiddling and cutting. I was not a happy camper when I realized that I wasn't going to get my 1/8" border. I have heard (I honestly can't remember where....probably somewhere in the forums) that they are coming out with two more sets. So I suppose they will offset the ones in Sets A and B and we'll finally get the 1/8" border on the outside panel that they advertised we were getting in the first place. But of course that will mean another 35.00 or so for one set and 70.00 for two. To get what I thought I was getting in the first place.
I don't want any trouble....LOL.......if anyone can explain this too me, or tell me what I am doing wrong, I will be only too glad to listen.
Would really appreciate any input anyone else has....and RiverIsis...you mentioned you were going to contact them on the issue. I'm wondering if you did and if you got a answer?

this is what i am going to do: write down my common measurments and laminate it, it can take a place on my craft table. instead of $70 or so on sale for spellbinders, i am going to buy a rotatrim professional model for $200. it bugs me that in crafting we have to buy so much "stuff". what would have been so hard about making a set of 1/8th inch dies that could also double as 1/4 inch dies by just skipping one.
i am just ever so grateful that someone else figured out what the heck i was talking about. jo, thank you. i have had 5 strokes, while i still work and craft and all the normal stuff, butmy cognitive skills leave a bit to be desired when i am trying to work out something new. my kids are in town and we are sitting down to watch the movie "Argo" and my 26 yr old with 8 yrs of college just said "do we want to wager on how long mom will watch this before she says its too complicated and goes to her room to read" but things cease to be fun when i have to concentrate so so hard!

Five strokes? Lori, I admire your determination and fortitude. I'm so glad we found each other in the forums, because it was driving me nuts too. It helped my frustration just to air it out....so thanks for that.
Now....I'm off to google Rotatriim Professional to see what that is.

its a paper trimmer. a nice one, that i am hoping will not need replaced anytime soon! i can cut my own mats, with more precision than with my fiscars trimmer, which i have beat to death.
