If you own the Genesis Paper Trimmer to you feel it was worth the money you spent on it? What do you like most? Have you had any issues with it or are there things you don't like about it?
I love my Genesis with edge light. I have never had a problem with it. It makes nice clean cuts and I am very happy with it. IMO it was well worth the money.
Could I do without it? Absolutely. Would I want to? Absolutely NOT!
I love everything about it, and have had no issues with it. I waited a long time to get one; when I learned that Bonnie's Best Tools had bought the rights to the trimmer, and had stepped up production to fulfill all the back orders, I immediately contacted her because I had some questions. I heard back from her within a few MINUTES! I placed my order a few minutes after that. I got the 18" with the edgelight and the guidebar.
I rec'd it very quickly, and it was packaged SO well to prevent any damage during transit.
First and foremost, I love the precision cuts I get. Second, I love the precision cuts I get - LOL. You can cut slivers of paper (which I love because they curl and I can add tendrils to my flowers, pumpkins, grapes, etc.)
I love the guidebar which allows me to make repetitive cuts. It hooks onto the top of the trimmer and tightens at the bottom, allowing you to place it anywhere on the bed.
I love the edgelight which I use to trim pre-stamped images and patterned paper to get my cuts exactly where I want (and couldn't do without the light in my photography).
I love the size of the cutting bed because it allows me to cut diagonally with no problems. The size might be a drawback for some people because the trimmer does have a large footprint; it's not a problem for me because I have a dedicated space for it.
Finally, Bonnie's Best Tools has great customer service; I don't think you would disappointed at all.

I love my Genesis too! I wavered on the edgelight but decided to get it anyway. Have to say I'm happy I did. Very handy to have. Also, I had no issues ordering or receiving
it. Money well spent in my opinion.
I've had mine for a number of years and love it. I had a question recently and Bonnie was quick to respond and help take care of my problem (one of my own making). Really good customer service.
Just noticed on FB that you can get the guide bar free with your purchase - good until the end of March.

YES!! It will be the last trimmer you buy. I only wish I had a newer one with the edge light and all the extras. I've had mine for 25+ years , but it still cuts like a charm. LOVE it!!
Can you cut chipboard with a Genesis? I am looking for a new trimmer that I can use on chipboard. I am fine with my Fiskars for paper, but am just not that good at cutting my chipboard with scissors, etc., and I enjoy doing mini-books.
I don't know about the chipboard. I have cut the heavier cardboard that comes with packaging and it did fine. Hopefully someone will have an answer for you.
The instructions say it's not made for cutting more than a sheet of cardstock, so I don't usually expect a clean cut with thick stuff.
Also, I confess to trying some thick stuff anyway and the blade "stutters" ,which is terribly dangerous because the blade mechanism flips and could easily cut your fingers. I won't try it again.
Your local print or copy shop will usually cut with incredible accuracy, when you want thick stock or multiple layers like your mini-books cut. Usually there's a minimum charge. I paid $5 to have 125 sheets of GinaK luxury cardstock cut to 5X7 card size. They did in seconds what it would have taken me many hours to do myself.
The Cuttlebug isn't good for cutting chipboard either, at least with the brands of dies I've tried. I bought way too many chipboard coasters that I intended to turn into very large snowflake ornaments. It didn't work. Anybody want some coasters?

I LOVE my Genesis Trimmer! I have the 16" with the lightbox for my office, and purchased a 12" trimmer for our store. It is SO worth every penny, and I would've saved a bundle on trimmers had I purchased the best, first.
Additionally, it's made in the USA which always makes me very happy. :-)
Have one and it's the best cutter ever. Like everyone else I went through sooo many cutters trying to find one that truly cuts straight. Now I have one and have not want for another paper trimmer. Unless a portable Genesis comes out LOL
I'm wondering if it is worth the money without the edge light? I wouldn't mind the light, but I only want the 12" and that is not available with the light. Will I be happy with the 12" (no light)? Just looking for a super-great cutter, have tried every other brand. Do not make cards, just scrapbooks, tags, etc.
I waited months for mine and have had it for about 10 years I also was at the end of the other company's sales. Ditto to all above I have never regretted it. If you think about all the money I have spent trying out other cutters it would ........ If you have the money buy it if you don't save for it.

I have the 12" with the light from years ago. I guess that I could live easily without the light if the 12'' is a sufficient size for you. I have never had a need for a larger one and on the rare occasion that I need something big I use my guillitine (sp) cutter and straighten the edge with my Genesis does that make sense?
Shenno, did you get your Genesis yet? Am anxious to hear how much you LOVE it!

I received the Genesis Cutter on Monday, but haven't had a chance to use it until today. Love it! First, the light. I find that it is very beneficial, more then I expected. Unless the cardstock is dark, you can see through it, it helps you get the right amount for a border. It cuts like a dream, and I'm amazed at how you can cut just a sliver off your paper. Then the guide bar, the first guide bar that makes sense. It goes all the way from top to bottom and you can screw it tight so it doesn't move. And the shipping, they sent it the day after I ordered it.
Shenno-I knew you would love it! I'm glad its going to work out for you. Like someone else posted, I wish I'd have bought it instead of going through the previous 4 cutters, lol!
Worth the $'s!
So glad I found this thread...I am thinking of taking the Genesis plunge....I have never heard a bad thing! One question I did have is blades...how often do you have to replace those?
So you can't cut more than one sheet at a time? I was thinking this would be a great tool, but I need something that I can do my class prep with.
I sometimes use the paper guide when I'm cutting multiples. It provides an edge for the paper to rest against so you don't have to look at the numbers every time. Absolutely love mine!!

Brenda, how many sheets of SU cs can you comfortably cut at a time?

I only cut one sheet at a time and it really is a pleasure. Kind of sad how much fun cutting card stock is now. And don't even get me started on the edge light.
Okay, so now I'm forced to talk about the edge light. LOL! This trimmer was designed for professional photographers who trim those white edges off their photos or crop them. The light shines through the photo giving you the exact placement for the cut. It also works on light colored card stock and DSP. I don't use this feature every time, but it sure come in handy when I need it.
My cutter might be the best investment that I have made. I bought it years ago just can't remember how many years ago. I know the waiting list was about 1 year out. I use it every time I work with paper. The edge light is a must. I have the 12" and am thinking about upgrading to the 16". Too bad that stopped making the edge light for the 12" because sometimes people don't have room for the 16". I do understand that the 16" without the edge light is only $30 more so if you have the room the 16" is the way to go and if you want the edge light the 16" is the only way to get it. Think about the cutters that you have or if you are new at this how many cutters that you might buy to find out they are very limited in the usefulness and don't last (believe me I have plenty of those). It would be wise to use the money to buy a Genesis. Put it on your Christmas list.
I have a 16" with light for my home studio and a 12" for the store. I wholeheartedly endorse them! And they are made in the USA.
They are spendy, yes, BUT if I added up all the money I've wasted on trimmer after trimmer that didn't work, I would have been ahead of the game. Plus you can buy every single part of it as replacements, so if anything does break or get lost, it can be replaced.
I did it! I ordered the 16" with the Edgelight. Free shipping code from Bonnie's Best facebook page. Ordered yesterday, shipped today! So I will have it in time to prep for my next Christmas Card class. I'm so excited!

YAY!!! It's great that you got in on the free shipping deal. You'll have to come back here and post once you've had a chance to try it.
I want one as well but they don't ship to Canada. :(
I can't believe they don't ship to Canada. I had to go check it out and here is what the website says:
"Because our local post office is severely understaffed, and service lines are quite long, we are not able to ship internationally at this time."
Bonnie, if you are reading this, why not charge a little extra and ship at least to Canada. You can pay someone to stand in line at the post office. I'm from Canada originally and I would be very sad if I couldn't get one in Canada.
Sorry I didn't see this earlier! We DO ship Genesis Trimmers to Canada -- just not all of our other products. Our shopping cart doesn't figure international shipping, so just shoot us an e-mail with which trimmer you want (and light or not) and we'll get back to you with the shipping total. E-mail address is Bonnie (at) bonniesbest (dot) com.
