Stacy,
Perhaps for you, you're earning the "right" to purchase at your sales. For each card you make, thing you dispose of, stamp you finally ink, etc. you get "dollars" to spend at the yard and estate sales. Basically, you don't get to spend (even though you can afford to) unless you've earned it. "I made x cards and got rid of these things this week, so I can go ahead and buy that cool suitcase to keep my ribbon collection in" or whatever. Or, if you didn't do much and you've used up the "money" you earned in previous excursions, you have to pass. "I'd like it, but I didn't earn it."
A couple of years ago, we had a financially lean year. It was strange to feel like I couldn't afford this or that, but you know what? I didn't feel deprived at all. There were very few times that I couldn't do with what I had. The few things I ran out of, I bought without guilt because it was an obvious need. This year, I've more than made up for it spending wise and have made fewer cards than ever. Weirdness.
