I'm so behind the times! My favorite tool is my bone folder. I can't make cards without it! I really think I need to look into a scoring board of some sort. Right now I use my bone folder and slide cutter (running my bone folder in the cutting channel). I've been making a bunch of paper projects lately and think the scoring board would be helpful.
I also us my big shot often and my sticker maker. Ohh....and I need a cast iron tortilla press...for tortillas and to flatten bottle caps (still not ready to pay for bottle caps that I can get for free!)

My mom was the proud recipient of my first handmade card. Cost $200.
I can't live without my paper cutter. You cannot make a decent card without a good cutter. It's worth spending more to get a quality one than having to look at furry edges on an otherwise lovely card.
ATG, paper cutter, Big Shot, embossing folders, non stick craft mat, squishy scissors, acrylic blocks & clear stamps, scor-buddy, Tonic scissors, ribbon scissors....basically every tool that I have!
My must haves are all my 'basics'- Stamp positioner, scalpel & metal edged ruler,scoreboard,guillotine, tweezers, in fact I did a post on my blog back last year on this theme: here is my whole list.
The one item I reach for over and over again, above all other things, is my water mister. I've decided I need a bigger one than the current 2oz one I'm using now as I refill it nearly every day. I could improvise with most other tools, but not the water mister.
I use these tools almost on every card: Paper cutter, scissors, sanding block, cutting mat (to sand on), craft mat, acrylic blocks, sewing machine, Grand Calibur, Dies.
I would also have to say my Bone Folder. I have the Teflon Bone Folder Tool from Simon Says Stamp. It is the absolute best bone folder I have ever used. It's expensive, but totally worth every penny. That along with my Scor-Pal are a must for me.

Tools I use most times I create something - paper cutter (mine is a guillotine type), Scor-It (for decorative scoring as well as constructing card bases), stamp positioner, bone folder, scalpel knife and steel ruler.
Big Shot and folders/dies come in a close second to those basics as do detail scissors and sponges. I love the Crop-a-Dile corner rounders, too.
Things I'm glad I bought because they make life easier although they're not essential - tracing wheel to make decorative lines of piercing quickly and easily, Perfect Layers rulers.
I've just bought some Tweezer Bee tweezers but other than that no tools have caught my eye recently and made me say "Ooh, must have one of those". That might just be a reflection on how many tools I already own, of course :rolleyes:

Rachel: If you like simple, you might like the Martha Stewart score board (about $12). Small, can take it with you, scores for basic A2 cards. Love it! I "graduated" from the bone folder to the MS score board only recently! LOL
I love my teflon bone folder; I felt ridiculous paying the price I did, but it has been worth every penny. Love my paper cutter and agree it's one of the most important pieces of equipment I own. My Big Shot gets a terrific workout; I graduated from a Cuttlebug a few months back, and the fact that I don't have to wrestle with the Big Shot, but can use fingertip pressure when I run something through, makes it a no brainer for me. And definitely would not want to be without my ScorPal.
Something new to try? My cousin brought her Silhouette Cameo to my house a couple of weeks ago, and we played for hours. Never thought I would be interested in it, but never say never. One is on its way to me.

Rachel you can use your big shot to flatten bottle caps just google flatten bottle caps in big shot and there are a ton of videos. Then you will have a big spot on your craft table to fill
Tools, pretty much love the paper cutter and good scissors. Occasionally get out the punches or cuttlebug. Have been looking at the Cameo but not sure how much I would use it.

Crafter's Ultimate Companion by Crafter's Companion. I love the versatility of it. I just gave my other score boards away because of it. I love the score plates and everything associated with it.
My ScorPal, Fiskars Cutting Board, scissors, Xyron X Sticker Maker, Big Shot, Sandpaper - These are just few of my favorite things. Merry Christmas All.
My must have tools are my score pal, guillotine style paper cutter from Stampin up, My Big Kick and dies from Spellbinders, other must have is my computer for vintage photos and inspiration.
I don't think anyone has mentioned a heat gun yet - is plain old heat embossing so old-fashioned that I'm one of the few who still does it? I love my heat gun.
Other than it, the tools I use for every single card are my paper cutter and my Scor-Buddy and bone folder (to get a perfectly folded card).
I also wouldn't want to be without my CuttleBug and embossing folders and dies. And I love my Cutter Bee scissors and fine point tweezers.

I am feeling like such a Luddite, lol! The only tools I use all the time are a craft knife, ruler, and cutting mat! However, I am finally getting a Cuttlebug for Christmas, and I want to start heat embossing more as well. I hope the learning curve on the Cuttlebug isn't too steep!
I do have quite of few tools that I use often and LOVE. However what I seem to use the most is...
Tim Toltz Tonic Scissors (for just about everything)
Reverse action Tweezers (For holding on to tiny pieces that need to be adhered and to hold for heat embossing and spray misting etc.)
My Quick Picker-up tool for setting tiny bling and embellishments etc.
Paper Piercer kinda for the same thing.
Distress inks and ink applicator tool. (I ink everthing)
My most used tools and the ones I treasure the most are my eyes/fingers/hands ..... and my trusty pointed, bent end tweezers to place or hold things (cardmaking involves very detailed work as you know). I really enjoy all of my caardmaking toys.... oops! I means tools.
I would like to try one of the Xyron adhesive systems. I love my Aleene's Designer Tacky Glue, but always wonder how this stuff would work.
Nobody has mentioned good paintbrushes? I don't use Copics, but I have a whole jar of brushes on my desk and they get used every day, just about, mostly with distress inks but also with watercolours and sometimes acrylic.
Apart from that, nothing other than what has already been mentioned by others.
I recently bought Perfect Layers, and while I don't use them every day, they were a good investment.
Add me to the paintbrush & heat gun fan list. I can't live without them.

Yes, my heat gun is always beside me, plugged in and ready to go.
I love the standard tools. Rotary paper cutter, Score-Pal, fine scissors, teflon sheet for inks and distress ink blending. However, one of my favorite all time tools is.........drum roll....... the Toothpick! I can pierce with it, glue with it, and pick up tiny pieces and place them exactly where I want them! They also help me put on jewel bling anywhere I want on the cards. I use them everyday! Sometimes over and over again!

I love my toothpicks! One of the greatest crafting tools ever made. I use them to apply glue, paint, pick up items, stab my cats when they are being bad, lol.
My favorites are my scoreboard, Fiskars trimmer a bottle of Crystal Effects, Score tape,cutter bee scissors, Tim Holtz Scissors and my Vagabond machine.

I want to try the Genius (MFT) and the Silhouette but can't justify that kind of expense for greeting cards, especially since I looked at a retail card rack last week and was stunned at the clever and beautiful cards. They seem to be far less expensive than when I last looked, about 6 years ago.
Finding the right Trimmer ate up so much cash, when I began making cards, I'll be hard-pressed to justify any more big-ticket items.
Favorite tools include: Cutterbee Teflon scissors(pink/fine pt), tweezers, cutter, Embossing Folders, Big Shot along with my Nesties, self healing cutting matt, clear gel pen, & Stickles, to mention a few . . . I started out thinking I would save all kinds of money making my own "handmade cards" but I would be afraid to total up the costs of the additional tools/toys I just can't seem to craft without. The list never ends! HA!
I need to mention that above all the places I look for inspiration, Splitcoast Stampers is my FAVORITE! You have endless creative talent participating and I can hardly wait until next weeks instructional video's, "tips", etc. LOVE-LOVE-LOVE YOU!!!!!

My SIL got me into this, and after seeing her studio, I was under no delusions that making cards was going to save me money. Sometimes I go buy a card for someone who won't appreciate a hand made one. (To save money ;-).)
