I never use the broad tip (chisel tip) unless I'm using the palette technique... never! lol.. If you're using Copic markers you shouldn't have the "running out of ink" problem with one tip unless the entire marker is out of ink. the ink will always transfer to the end that you're using - if you've run out of ink that means it's refill time!
