Default SU's New Basic Black Ink

I was making some cards tonight where the main image is a large black stamped image and I stamped on Whisper White. My black ink has been smearing and smudging like crazy, even after I've allotted some time for the ink to dry.

Is anyone else having the same issues? Could it be the coating on the Whisper White paper that's contributing to the smearing?

I finally pulled out my Memento Tuxedo Black, but the black wasn't white as deep as the SU one. But the smudging from SU's new black is getting on my nerves.

It is a known issue, Monika. SU is working on it, but as usual with sporadic problems, it's difficult to figure out the problem. Make sure you contact your demo to request a replacement or exchange, perhaps for Staz-on.

I don't have the new one, so I can't speak to this in particular, but I know others have mentioned using a light touch when applying the ink to the stamp and/or heat-setting afterwards - maybe it would help...?

I have heard way too many times about SU! black ink smearing. So, I quit using it a few years ago. I use Memento or Palette Noir. I find both are pretty black. And I save myself the aggrevation! I love other SU! inks, just not their black. Which used to be purple tinged! LOL.

My favorite black is Versafine Black Onyx. Such a clear, crisp image. It does take a little bit longer to dry than SU, but you can use the heat tool, or set it aside for a few minutes.

The new firm foam stamp pads are awesome...except for the black. Some are getting ones that work fine. And some are getting ones that smear. They are still working on solution, and it is not the coating on the cs because mine smeared on other colors and non SU paper.
Customer support offered me a Stazon ink pad. Until they fix the issue, I use the stazon or my old black SU pad that never gave me an issues.

I had to test and see if Basic Gray has the same issue and it doesn't. I thought it might since the ink was reformulated (i.e. gotta get a new reinker and can't use the old for the new foam pads), but the Basic Gray stamped wonderfully and is not smearing. So good news on that. It really is just the Basic Black that has an issue.

To make matters worse, I just ordered a black ink refill. Ugh. Gotta return both the pad and the refill. Maybe I can get credit toward a stamp set.

Thanks y'all for letting me know I'm not alone and that it's not the paper. Oh and overall, I'm absolutely loving the new firm foam pads. I can even get crisp images with cheap acrylic stamps. Awesome!

Glad you mentioned this. When the new SU pads came out the black smeared. I've tried it on all types of paper and it still smears. Like others I am waiting on a resolution for the problem from SU. The other colors don't smear. Really I can't understand why they sent the black pads out knowing they would smear.
