Coloring Clear Rhinestones? Help!

I thought that I had read somewhere that you can color clear rhinestones with markers. I tried it and the ink comes right off. Has anyone heard of this and what markers or ink do you use???? I can't find navy blue rhinestones and want them for my Christmas cards.

I'm not sure what type of marker you're using to colour your rhinestones. I colour my rhinestones with copics, trias and other permanent markers and it works fine. Water based markers wont work - if you use an alcohol based or permament marker you should be OK.

I use sharpie's to color my rhinestones.

Sharpies or Bics. Also, alcohol ink, add drops to a small bag with the bling, mix around, dump out on a scrap paper to dry.

Lardystick on Ebay has flatback gems in every colour you can think of. May be worth a look. I have bought off her loads of times, so can vouch for her quality, prices etc.

Hi, you can use your promarkers or any alcohol pens, you can then match your work perfectly.

What a great idea!!!! I use my Copics to color the clear jems and pearls all the time. I either color on them direct or I have tried airbrushing them too. I think you'd get a richer color with your method. I'm going to give it a try! TFS!

Copics are great for coloring all kinds of glass. When I couldn't find a set of purple
miniature lights to replace the strand in my Halloween spider lights, I colored the white ones I got with a purple Copic. They looked great!

I have great success colouring my rhinestones with Promarkers. I bought a large bag of rhinestones from one of the pound shops in our town, only to find that some of them were a horrible colour and had two holes drilled through them. One day I wanted a particular colour rhinestone which I didn't have, so I painted glue over the top of a dingy one and sprinkled glitter over it before the glue dried. I was thrilled to bits with the result and I now see my not-so-good coloured rhinestones differently and went back to the pound shop and bought another bag! Hope you give this a try.
