i am just wondering if i am the only one here who does not make cards or layouts? i used to do both and quite a lot of them too, participated in all the challenges and had lots of fun. but lately i have been more into the art journaling/mixed media world and most of what i do is either in my journal or on wood boards or canvases. but now that means i am in a much smaller, slightly lonely world! no fun challenges on here to play in and a lot less interaction it seems. anyone other stampers out there who don't do cards??? and i wonder if we could have challenges that don't HAVE to be a card??? or can i participate in the challenges if it isn't a card? maybe i should just participate in them anyway? would i get in trouble?
oh really? because i was looking through the challenge FAQ and it said card specifically BUT if it's ok i will join back in. now as for the mixed media challenges specifically...let me know your thoughts and if i can help! i would love to get something going if there is an interest....

You could also start a less formal challenge yourself - down at the bottom of the challenges section, under all the forums for organised challenges, is a looser section. You might find it slow going at the start but if you can get a few people interested to get a core group, it would be great.
Queen For The Day started down there, and generated such a response that it got its own forum ;).
And we do have a section in the gallery for Art Journalling, too! It's not something I see myself doing, but I am always blown away by the uploads I do come across.
The only SCS challenge that has a "keep it to cards" rule is the weekly CAS challenge as far as I know. Some challenge themes might be naturally card-biased but lots are completely open to interpretation so I'd say play along with whatever you feel moved to make!
I think the terminology "card" is used a lot (the gallery for example says "upload a card") where what it really means is "project". I guess it's just reflecting the majority position of the stampers here.
I'm guessing you'd get a fairly small but loyal band of mixed media folk if you did some challenges with that focus - Sabrina's pointers look good!
hmmm maybe i will give it a shot...i DID play along with the challenge today and the two mixed media boards i uploaded - everyone thinks they're cards anyway :P it CAN look like they are cards if you don't read the description....
Hey Marti! Have you checked out Art Journalling Tuesday on the Stamping Bella blog? If you pop in to the Stamping Bella member company forum here you will see a thread about it.
hi elaine! i will have to go check it out...i have not bought a stamping bella stamp in years but i was sure getting interested when you posted those uptown girls on facebook you were coloring.......

Haha! Em has some pretty cool art journalling style stamps in the range too!
When you go to the gallery you can search by art journal. Here's a link Looks like there are a few regular posters there who might be interested if you contacted them. Good luck. I've really only dabbled myself with a SMASH book, but I love the look of the art journaling I've seen. I'd stalk your challenge gallery if you started one!

You can email your pics to Em for inclusion on her weekly blog post. Check the blog for the info.
I am not so fond of making cards either and I like to do mixed media. I always have and been stamping for maybe 15 years with about a 3 year break that I didn't stamp.
I like to make my pictures into art pieces with framing.
Here are my last two with Copic markers, colored pencils and chalks.

One way to look at it is that you're just substituting canvas, etc. for the base instead of using a folded piece of cardstock.
I'm really interested in starting art journaling, but need to win the lottery so I can retire first. Having a job sure does take up a lot of time better spent crafting.
