Hi! I'm fairly new to SCS so I hope it's ok that I post this here! I wanted to share the way that I store my 8.5x11 card stock. It's taken me awhile to find a way that works good for me and I finally have it! It's easy to grab what I want and to store my scraps in these expandable file folders. There are pictures on my blog and a link for a free file tab printable I created of all the SU colors. Hopefully someone will find this helpful!

I sucked it up and got this beauty. It holds a lot of paper and is pretty! I wanted doors to keep the light out. I spray painted the panels w/ Kyrlon paint...satin boots (something) was the perfect match for the med oak color. PAINT the doors before you assemble!! And dont drink wine while assembling...lol Tequila makes ya crazy and wine makes ya blind.
If anyone is interested...I can attach how I made the labels to ID the CS.

great cabinet! i'm just starting to organize my papers and for now have the recollections hanging files for the 12 x 12 and another container of regular hanging files for the 8.5 x 11".....my question is - how do you sort by color? if i use rainbow, where does pink fit in? what is DSP? what are in-colors? do all the browns/tans/creams go under neutrals?

Susan- DSP and in-colors are Stampin' Up! terms. ;) DSP is the 12x12 Designer Series Paper. (Basically a fancy word for patterned paper). The In-Colors are new colors that Stampin' Up! releases each year and that is around for 2 years. (The new "in-colors")
I used to have mine arranged by "rainbow". (and had my pinks behind my reds) But now that I only use Stampin' Up cardstock, I have it arranged by color family. (neutrals, brights, etc.)

I am not a Stampin Up! only person, I buy my solid cardstock wherever it is on sale for cheap cheap cheap!! I have been known to buy paper from the dollar store and Big Lots on many occasions!! So I had to come up with a system that was more general. I decided to start with the basic color wheel and add to it as I felt the need to. Here is a list of my colors... the first list are the "basic" colors I started with and the second list is all the others I ended up adding as I went along. This has been working quite well for me for a few years now!! Oh by the way, I store mine in one of those white cubes you buy at Michael's - the one that is a hanging file drawer. I put 12x12 sheets in back and 8x11 and large scraps in front. I store smaller scraps in bin that stays on my work station!
Pink, Brown (I removed all the dark brown from neutral and gave it it's own file), Neon (!!! yes I have a folder of Bright Neon Colors!!! I don't have a lot of it so it all fits in one folder!!!)

Great idea ~ I love the jackets you use to put the paper in, this definitely helps with the corners of the paper not getting ruined. Right now I use a 2 drawer (plastic) filing cart and it is jammed full! (I also use to be a SU demo) so with that said I have a TON of paper! Any idea on about how much this will hold?

I store all of my scraps in a 12x12 hanging file bin. This is absolutely wonderful as I labeled all the folders with the 8 basic colors and then a few others, such as ecru and pink. It saves an incredible amount of time trying to find the right color. All shades of red are in one folder, etc. My 8 1/2 x 11 papers are stored in a filing cabinet with no labeling. The colors are easy to see when the drawer is opened.
I store my 12 x 12 in hanging files in a recollections cube (it's getting heavy!) I store my 8.5 x 11 in a regular size hanging file - I was thinking of adding my scraps to that file - just storing them in front of the full size sheets...does anyone do that or would i be better off with yet another file system....I'm only using a plastic portable file case with a handle for the 8.5 x 11 as I don't have that much in that size so far
Hi there. I am putting a new space together and I spent hours today working on putting my paper onto shelves and trying to arrange it so it would be easy to find but I can already tell that 'easy to find' is not going to happen with what I currently have so I decided that I needed some system with lots of slots - LOL - so this unit would be perfect !!!
That said, I have two questions:
1. Did you have to pay for shipping? Estimated freight to my zip for one of these units is $74.00.:shock:
2. I would be putting this together all by myself. How easy/difficult was this to assemble?

Laid it on a quilt and went to work.
I think it was pretty simple....better than a lot of other ready to assemble furniture. I can email you the lessons learned from assembling 2. Most important....no wine...lol

Amazon has it for 270....free shipping. I wish I could remember where I got it and what I paid. I know it was an online vendor that has warehouses across the USA bc mine came from Charlotte NC...almost next day delivery.
Just google it and get the best price. I do know that Krylon fusion satin boots is a perfect match to spray paint doors....to keep the light off the edges of the CS. And spray paint before you assemble.

I do store my scraps in front of the full sheets of paper. But the gusseted file folders keep it somewhat organized. I think it's easier this way than having a different system for scraps. I've tried keeping my scraps in sterilite drawers before but I found I wouldn't always use them that way. This way works great for me!

Hi everyone! I'm fairly new here so hope I can get some help. I've been a scrapbooker for over 12 yrs. I need ideas and help with organizing pattern paper. I don't stick with a specific brand since I just love pretty paper and believe all companies out there have something for everyone. So, I buy paper from all companies? I have a lot of paper and what I need help with is do I organize by color family, e.g. Pinks, yellows, etc., or by patterns, stripes, flowers, lines. Holidays are easy for the obvious reasons.
Please help if you can. Thank you all.
I have two files - one that holds 12 x 12 paper. It is a cube I bought at Michaels and holds hanging files. I sorted by color first. Then I also sorted by season, holiday, patterns...if I could figure out how to upload a picture I'd take one to show you - it works really well. Sitting on top of it I have a plastic case also with hanging files, in it are 8 1/2 x 11 inch papers sorted the same way...i also am thinking of putting my scraps in there but for now the good size scraps are just in a clear plastic folder.
I got the general idea from The Scrap Rack - she has organizational tutorials every few months - i liked how she suggested organizing paper and adapted it to fit my needs - minus the Scrap Rack itself.
Have fun! It is so easy for me to find paper now...BTW, I still have the packs of paper stacked up separately by size....so much paper...so little time...
I just spent several hours yesterday sorting my cardstock scraps - by color and some of the dp by color also. Now in a bin (which Staples has for free after rewards if you have a rewards card this week - gotta love free).

Hopefully, I won't cut into my full sheets until I go through the ziploc bags first. ;) Didn't realize how much was there especially white and ivory, yikes. But yes it does feel better having done it.

So glad I came across this post. I've sort of gotten side tracked from stamping/scrapbooking and have been doing a lot of crocheting, even started my own little home business. I do want to make time to get back to my craft room. We also just moved to a new house a year ago and I have a craft room now. I've been working in it to get it organized in a way that I will know/see what I have to work with. Paper storage is the one thing that's on my mind right now. I have one of those tall black paper holders on wheels that you get at Hobby Lobby, Michael's, etc. I'm not in love with it. It's not the easiest to find what I need. Plus, it's sort of wobbly (especially after the move) I have some of the file jackets Cory mentioned and actually have my SU paper in it (I was a SU demo for a short time so I don't have a lot). I was debating on getting the cropper hoppers or the white shelves/paper storage from Michael's. I like the idea of the containers with lids to keep the dust out and that they're also portable.
Love getting new ideas from everyone!
