Default Scrapbook class to mentor teenage moms

My friend and I both feel lead to mentor the teenage moms at our local unwed teenage mom's shelter. We want to do something with them that will be fun and give them something to treasure of their babies. We were thinking of teaching them how to make a mini album for their babies pictures. We want to donate all of the supplies but have limited funds so my question to all of you ladies is... can you give me some ideas of what kind of small album to make that would take up to four weeks (about 2-3 hrs a week) to complete but not too complicated and not too costly. Also do you think it would be okay to ask our local SBS to donate items? I would very much welcome your input.

How about decorating journals? Teens love these, I know I did a lot of writing when I was younger. You can start with blank notebooks that can be decorated with scraps.

The mini albums sound lovely too. I would definitely go to your local SCS or any discount store and ask for donations. We did this for a local event here and major chains were more than generous. Just be prepared with a letter that describes your cause and ask for your letter to be given to the manager, then ask for contact information and follow up. The average donation we got was worth about $25.

Good luck!

Sorry for the 2nd post...

May I recommend basic supplies as well? I know we crafters prefer the best of the best, but don't rule out more economical supplies such as glue sticks over tape runners. Also, ribbons can be colored with alcohol inks (ex. Ranger) and so you shouldn't have a need to buy too many colors, just white. See what places like Walmart or other chains can give you. Even hardware stores have some pretty cool things that can be used in crafting, like washers from Home Depot for example (yes, I've used these on cards)

Please PM me your address... I have some embellies I can donate... not much but I would love to help.

You can get 6x6 coaster albums from Michaels for $1 each. Or you could when I looked last (admittedly a while ago!)

I'd love to send you a few bits & bobs too if you PM me your address. Sounds like a fantastic project.
