According to the Silhouette website it can cut "Paper and cardstock, Adhesive vinyl, Fabric
Heat transfer material, Rhinestone templates, Specialty media." It does not cut chipboard, or thin metals like the Gazzelle. I am not sure if the Cricut mini and expression use the same cartridge. I am guessing they would, but the Cricut mini has to be hooked up to the computer and the expression can stand alone to cut. When I was looking to purchase a machine my paper instructor told me to think about what I would use it for and think about the overall cost. With the Cricut you pay for the machine and the additional money for the cartridges. With the silhouette I paid for the machine and if I want additional cutting designs they cost .99 from the website. I said all of that to say make sure you are getting the machine that will work for your needs.
