Saw the ad here at SCS for Perfect Layers and I've heard of it so ck'd it out. Watched the videos and does look like it works cool, but I primarily cut with a small SU slicer type cutter - anyone have experience they can share - believe it or not I don't have an exacto type knive. Thanks
Diana
I was very pleased with my purchase of Perfect Layers. I bought all three of the rulers. They make matting photos quick and easy...no measuring! I used to cut my mats with a cutter, but no more! I love my Perfect Layers tools.
I have the set of three Perfect Layers rulers and like them. Mind you I've been using a craft blade practically since I could walk so there was nothing new to learn there!
I think they're well made, they feel sturdy and don't slip once you have them butted up properly so it's easy to run your blade along and there's a metal edge embedded in the plastic so it's a robust surface you're cutting against. Even if you're not especialy confident with a craft blade I would think they're easy to use.
If you decide to go for it, a word of advice on cutting with an Xacto type knife - change the blade regularly so it's always really sharp and on thicker stuff make two or three passes with light pressure rather than pressing down hard to try to get through in one go. You'll get cleaner cuts that way.
HTH but if you have something specific you'd like to know about the Perfect Layers shout up and I'll try to help!
I have two of the rulers and also like them. I use an olfa rotary cutter and I find that works really well. I like to sew on my cards and find that cutting mats for my sewn panels is especially easy, as the thread (I use thicker thread) on the bottom of the cardstock helps lift it up, so the ruler butts against it easily.
Love, LOVE my Perfect Layers, the only way I make layers for cards now.

I had a set a long time ago, made by SU. I hated it. I never got a straight cut, and the layers were never symmetrical. And I'm pretty good with an Xacto and a ruler. Maybe they've improved upon the Perfect Layers since I had mine (which I sold a few years ago).
I bought mine years ago when the were sold on one of the shopping channels.
Let just saw I can not scrapbook without them. Such a wonderful tool for making straight cuts for matting with pictures.
I just love them
I have all 3 rulers and LOVE them! I have had them for about 6 months and could never get my layers even until I used these tools. I had always used a scalpel knife and a metal ruler prior to buying the Perfect Layers Tools but if my ruler slipped a little, the cut would be crooked: made me crazy  I can't imagine making a card without them now!
I bought mine at QVC the day they were introduced- I was there for a scrapbooking event. Stood in a very long line to get them on the spot. Have never regretted it- they are terrific! I bought a second set- just in case. Highly recommend!!!
I have two sets of Perfect Layers rulers that I've had for many years and I use them constantly when I scrapbook or make cards. For a long time I couldn't find them to buy more--but found them again at perfectpapercrafting.com.
Sometimes the lip can be tricky if you're making a skinny mat so I've learned to look through the ruler to make sure it's sitting straight next to the paper, hold it down firmly, and then cut it.
I highly recommend these rulers--you'll find that you can't live without them!
Mine certainly aren't SU! as I've never bought from an SU! demo. You can see the whole range at Perfect Paper Crafting here and I suspect some LSS etc buy wholesale and carry them.
Perfect Layers THE Essential Scrapbooking Tool
I got mine from here just a couple of weeks ago. For international shipping there's a per-order handling charge, so I decided to get the Perfect Squares too. Like the Stamp-a-ma-Jig, this is something I should have got long before I did! More the rulers, but having played with the square one I know I'll use it.
If you can find somebody who is a Perfect Layers ambassador, they'll probably have a discount coupon on their blog, too.
Oops, I see that's the link Joanne gave - time to go to bed!!
