2012 Cards for A Cause ~ AUGUST MISSION ~ Stamp from the Heart!
ORGANIZATION BEING FEATURED:
Hospice of St. Francis
This month we are featuring Hospice of St. Francis. Our cards will be donated to brighten the days of patients.
Hospice of St. Francis is an independent, not-for-profit organization that provides quality, compassionate care to patients and families facing life-limiting illness. The goal of hospice care is to maximize quality of life based on the patients choices. We provide medical, social, spiritual and physical care to patients at home, whether that home is a nursing home, assisted living or private residence. This care is provided as long as the patient wants and needs hospice care, regardless of age, race, gender, color, national origin, handicap or ability to pay.
Hospice of St. Francis was established in 1977 and was named for the Patron Saint who was known not only for his love of animals but for his devotion to consoling the dying. Our hospice was the first hospice established in Brevard County Florida, and the second in the entire state.

TYPE OF CARDS REQUESTED:
Birthday cards! They can use birthday cards for men and women, larger cards are easier for them to handle and read, but they will use any that are donated. Blank inside is best and a lighter background makes it easier for the senior patients to see the writing. Envelopes are appreciated but not required.
In addition to birthday cards, they would also LOVE to have patriotic-themed cards to send to the Veteran patients to thank them for their service, acknowledge special holidays like Veterans Day, or for birthdays. These could be blank inside and they will personalize them as needed, but good old RED, WHITE AND BLUE, STARS AND STRIPES, EAGLES, etc, would be awesome! Their patients who are Veterans really appreciate being acknowledged, and this would help them do that.
Awesome cause!! We have unfortunately had to use hospice for my Mother-In-Law, and I just received some sad news today that my Mother-In-Law's best friend has been diagnosed with the same thing she had and has been given 2 weeks to a month. Hospice is going to talk with them tomorrow. This is a cause near and dear to my heart, and I will do my best to get as many cards out to them as I can. I wish I had some patriotic stamps!!

Aww....I am so sorry to hear that......
Hospice does do wonderful things. I am sure they will make her final days much more comfortagle....I am sad to say! Thanks so much for all you do!!
My father was in hospice until his death at the age of 80. My mother would thank that organization whenever she could (monetarily). I live just north of Titusville, Florida. I will be glad to send about 50 cards. What a great cause. Thank you for getting this going.
This cause will be a real pleasure. Both my mother and father were placed under hospice care before their deaths. Knowing they were soon to leave me was dreadful, but the hospice workers took such a huge weight off my shoulders and gave much joy and comfort during the last few months. My mother especially loved her workers, and referred to visits from them as "spa days" because they made her feel so good. Thanks for choosing another great cause.
Aww....thank you for sharing guys...both of you. I have no personal experience with Hospice but I have heard lots of wonderful stories from friends and acquaintences like yours.....it warms my heart. Thank goodness for Hospice!
And thank goodness for you all...sending these cards!
Thank you so much for wanting to help others who are experiencing what you have been through with your own loved ones. I'm glad you found hospice to be helpful. Looking forward to seeing some of your beautiful cards and knowing how much joy they will bring to our patient!
Hello fellow Floridian!!
It's always wonderful to hear how much hospice care helps. Thank you for sharing your experience. We will make sure that your hand-crafted cards reach patients who need uplifting! Thank you so much! Mary Larson
This is a wonderful cause! Fortunately, my family hasn't had to use hospice services, but I know that they do wonderful, vital work. I will start making cards tomorrow. Is it OK to share a link to this thread on my blog?

Hi Scrapjanny! Thank you so much, we would love to receive some cards from you and would be very happy to be included in your blog!
FYI if anyone specializes in bookmarks or other little crafts, we can accept those as well for patient birthdays.
I thank you and all who have responded so enthusiastically to our request for cards. It's wonderful to know how much love is out there in the world that folks like you want to donate your handiwork to bring cheer and joy to complete strangers. Thank you for helping us to uplift lives!
Just found this thread. SO awesome. I will spend the weekend making patriotic cards - received a ton of wonderful images through Wish RAK that I can use for this purpose. I will post again once they go into the mail. Thanks to all who give so much back through SCS.
