Default Question Re: SU Catalog

Just wondering...when I was a demonstrator I always gave my customers and those in my Stampers 10 group a new catty when they came out. Now, my demonstrator has started charging for them. I am curious...how do all of you handle this?

I always got catalogs for free. When I was a demo, for a year, I gave them away for free, but I never made money because I am not a sales person. The demos around here that charge for the catalog aren't able to keep customers, but the cost of the catalog is not the reason.

Most of the demos in this area that charge for catalogs give it to you for free if you place a qualifying order, usually $25.

My demonstrator gives them away free. Even if you don't use her as your demo. She's just terrific!

I thought perhaps it was because of the economy that mine was charging for them~

I gave catalogs to my stamp club customers, but I charged others the $5 it cost me. That's what I pay my current demo, too.

(never been a SU demo) But I have been a demo for a couple of companies.

When I started out I charged my customers a small fee for the catalogs.

Later on. I would give out Free catalogs to my good customer's. and anyone else. They paid a small fee for them.

It's really up to the person who is selling them.

I think part of it depends on whether you are getting the catalog in person or if it is being mailed. I give my catalogs away to customers who have placed an order in person. I will mail a catalog to frequent customers for free as well. If someone wants a catalog and they are not placing an order, I charge the mailing fee, which is $5. Demos pay for the catalogs, so when they give them for free, it is coming out of their own pocket. SU recently changed their catalog pricing, so the cost is now less to the demos than it was previously.

The first time I attended a group I paid $5 for the catty, but my demo took that off my first order. After that she always gives us a free catty.

I've always given my catalogs free to my stamp camp regulars. I don't do parties, so can't say what I would do there. My catalog is my storefront in if my customers have something to look at when they are not at my house stamping, their wish list grows longer.

And if no one sees my store, no one will buy from my store, and my store will "close". I do not ever charge for a catalog.

I have never paid for an SU catalog. I had always gotten them free, then had a different demo (who did have really low sales, no club, and 3 cards for 5$ night). She charged, so I just borrowed her catalog to order. I didn't begrudge her charging, everything else was so low cost/low commitment. When I was a demo (not SU) I gave catalogs free with a pretty small order, or if someone seemed to really be planning on ordering, not just a "catalog collector."

My demo always gave out a free catalog with a $50.00 order. Everyone would gladly go along with that in our group.

Same here, I paid for the first one and then when I began ordering, she's given me one, it's what keeps me ordering from her ;)

If you have a steady demo and you order regularly, then I think a free catalog would be in her best interest. However, my demo friend has given free catalogs to some who seemed interested and she never heard another word from them! I think in a case like that, a fee should be set....

I used to belong to a local stamp club where we got a free catalog for joining. That demo quit though and I couldn't find another local one who offered classes/workshops that I could attend. I found a couple of demos along the way online that I would order from (like their blogs, etc) and would get a free catalog too. However it has been maybe 5 years and I haven't seen a catalog in real life since then.

I don't have a local demo to see a catalog and demos online want you to order (or even host a show) to get a free catalog. I won't pay for a catalog on principle, so therefore I have ordered no stampin up in that time. It is sad really, but I have made do with other items.

I guess I should add to my earlier post that I do not begrudge those demos who don't give out free catalogs. It is their business and a choice for them. If in person, I kind of understand, but I have always ordered when given a catalog, so it doens't make too much sense to me, but it is their call.

For online,I can totally understand demos not wanting to mail a complete stranger, who may just collect catalogs, a free catalog and be out the cost of the catalog and shipping. I just don't want to pay anything to see a book, not even the shipping. Hope that makes sense.

I give free catalogs to most customers or it will be part of special such as $5 or free with $25 purchase. The $5 is for people who are new and if they eventually order I'll refund the $5.

When I was a customer my demo never gave me a free catalog but I rather give them away.

My demonstrator is so nice and always gives the regular customers a catalogue. She is so generous she probably gives them away to others too. I don't know what the cost is to demo but I don't think that it is $10.00 . I think that it would behoove the demo is give them away to those that order regularly or after a customer spends $50.00. I would find someone who doesn't charge for them if I had to buy one. I spend so much $$ on SU in a year..........
