I need techniques for black cardstock

I was fortunate enough to purchase 2 reams of 80# black cardstock, one smooth and one linen for a great price. I've used black cardstock for layering on cards, but I would appreciate any ideas or techniques I could use for cardmaking using the black cardstock as my canvass. Photos would be nice if you have them. Thanks in advance!

You can run the CS through an embossing machine then Brayer it with a light Pigment ink or glitter, this is one of my favorite techniques!

If you have Pearl-Ex or Perfect Pearls, they can look really good on black.

I don't know about Pearl-Ex, but you can add water to Perfect Pearls and paint/colour with them on dark card - this is navy, but you could do the same with your black: Blessed Birth 1 by Cook22 - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers. This looks much better in real life.
Just stamping a background stamp in white or a metallic and embossing will also make a lovely backgound: SC347 Snowy Birdhouse by Cook22 - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers
You could also stamp with light or metallic acrylic paints and create wonderfully striking backgrounds.
Another vote for Black Magic, it can be very striking and was the first thing I thought of.
2 reams of black card - you are SO lucky. I use it quite a bit for card bases, and used to get all the back covers from the paper pads when we had training. But of late our training has been lower budget and we haven't been getting the paper and biros.

Some of the most gorgeous cards I've seen using black cardstock just had a background stamped and embossed with clear embossing powder for a black-on-black, shiny/matte effect. Unfortunately, I can't find a single example to link to, but trust me - it's really pretty!

I love to use Judikins microglaze on blackcardstock. It looks very pretty.

I love black cardstock!! I use it all the time.

here are two ideas i've used recently: large black label die cut with chipboard (or any embellishment) on top; and colourful background with butterflies punched out. (it creates that silhouette look)

I love all the ideas - I love black cardstock but haven't tried some of those suggested. Am anxious to try.

Here's another - have you done any bleaching? You'll have to try a small piece to see how the cardstock bleaches. No two cardstocks are the same. Make sure your bleach is always fresh for best results.

The only problem is they are going out of business so their stamps may be limited. Grab them while you can.

One of my favourite techniques is split image or some call it split negative. F4A92 Simple Black and White by Mrs Noofy - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

you could try inking up your embossing folder with a clear ink (versamark, perfect medium etc), running your black card thru, adding clear embossing powder and heating - then dust mica powders over the top and gently heat again - the micas sink into the powder and then won't rub off. looks especially good with the interference micas.

this is a great tip from ali at stamps away.

Now that's the problem with white ep, it's not cream and it's not totally white.
I'm in agreement with you Sabrina! I love poitive and negatives!

I like the idea of the Versa Mark on the ef, then emboss, add the ep and heat emboss then add the mica powders, I was just using the Versa Mark and then brushing the powders on.

Thanks for that suggestion - I'm certainly up for giving it a go. I think if I used a SAMJ and stamped the image twice I'd get a good strong white image stamping. I'd never thought of that, I've just tried one white EP after another :rolleyes:.

Gina K also did a great technique video on "Pullin' Pastels" which is like an inverse of the chalkboard or poppin' pastels idea. It uses dark cardstock (black, navy, etc.)

To me, the white ink with the clear ep just isn't the same, though it does give a truer shade of white.

Silhouettes! I have "A Child's Year" Cricut cartridge, and love cutting the silhouettes out of black paper and using them on a white card base.

It looks nice with gold/silver embossing powder. With chalks you can create a scratchboard type effect (maybe also a white pigment ink?). Scratchboard is very time-consuming, but I've seen near scratch-board results with chalks/white pastels and probably white acrylic. It would look most like scratchboard if you chose a stamp with lots of line/details.
