Default Help!! My Big Shot died!!

Ladies,

I need help, please. A shelf in my closet fell and when it did, it knocked my Big Shot on the floor. Now the handle will not turn at all - totally locked up. Has this happened to anyone else and if so, how did you fix it?

I bought mine a long time ago, so returning it for repairs is not an option = I no longer have any of the paperwork that came with it.

I am heartbroken - and I need it to work to finish a swap I'm in. :

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Kim

Hi Kim!
How sad! Your poor Big Shot!

First off, you mention that you bought it a long time ago...more than three years? I'm not where you purchased yours from, but if you got it from Stampin' Up! there is a 3 year warranty you may be able to use. If that isn't an option, I know there there is a replacement handle and some handle parts available from Sizzix. I'd give them a call and see what they say.

Good luck!

Thank you! I will check w/ Sizzix to see if they can advise.

I did not purchase from SU! - I purchased from RitzCamera online. It's definitely been more than three years ago -and I have more than gotten my money out of it.

I'm going back to school, so fun money dollars are very limited for me now......hence, I can't just replace it easily as I might once have done.

i have an old red and white bigkick, and it didnt fall, but , the handle froze up just the same!

heres what i did and it is working fine agian:

lay the machine on its side and remove the handle
spray some WD40 into the screw area and let it sit a while
put the handle back on and lay flat again, and try to turn it

hopefully this might help you too!

It's possible the bearing got broken when the machine hit the floor. Sadly, Sizzix don't supply the bearing as a spare part, just the handle. I got my whole machine replaced under warranty because the bearing broke but my dad actually stripped down the old machine (which was otherwise destined for landfill) and managed to replace the bearing with a plain brass one so my mum now has that machine. If you find the bearing has gone in yours, you might be able to do something similar if you're the practical type!

Default Big shot

My handle froze up too. I use it occasionally so I don' t know why it doesn't work. Never dropped it. Trying the WD40 and hope it works.

The WD40 did the trick. Thanks who posted that is what they did.

FTR, Sizzix offers a 3-year warranty on its manual machines. I know you said this machine is older than that, but for future reference, owners are good to go for three years. I love Sizzix customer service!

Also, there is a handle kit you can get from Sizzix and keep on hand for emergencies. It's worth buying for peace of mind. If your luck is like mine, buying the kit and will guarantee you'll never need it!
