I just pre-ordered mine through Archivers. $52 and change and the free nesting die set. Though I am not sure if it is the whole "ultimate set" or just the platform. It should be there in the next few days according to the associate. I am just too excited! I bought a used revolution because I loved the magnetic platform, but I hate having 2 machines to worry about. I hope the Genius lives up to my dreams!!

Thanks to all you enablers. I had never heard of this but I am fed up with having my dies just slip a little bit! It sounds great. I just ordered from Scrapbook Express. It's on sale and there is an extra 15% off for Mothers Day. This is my gift to myself.. Oops, bought another gift yesterday too. How many Mother's Days are there? It's all weekend isn't it?

Thanks for that link, best deal I've seen on it yet! I ordered it, but I've never ordered from SE before, is it a reliable store?

Katarina, I plan to do a pre-order from this company as well. I checked out the company on the Better Business Bureau. BBB findings aren't perfect, but I believe they are a fair indicator of problems.

Scrapbook Express is not a BBB member, but received an A+ rating based on the following criteria:

" Length of time business has been operating.
No complaints filed with BBB.
BBB has sufficient background information on this business."

I was going to pay $20 for the long acrylic cutting pieces, but decided to wait until the Genius comes out. Normally, I don't buy anything as soon as it is released. I like to wait to hear what others have to say. But I think this weekend's price is good enough for me to take a chance.

I have purchased from Scrapbook Express and they have great service. I even had a return that they gladly arranged to take back.

Thank you Cinnistew. I must admit, I was a bit nervous as I have never ordered from them before.

I went to order and now it says Out of Stock. It said In Stock a few hours ago and had a note that said something about it being a pre-order but needed to say In Stock so it could be added to the cart.

Maybe they've had too many orders go through with the 15% discount. On the front page it says that discount is not to be combined with other discounts.

I'm a little bummed, but I'll get over it. It was going to put me over on my May budget, so perhaps it's just as well that I wait.

The entire set was in the box, the platform and mats A & B. I also got the 10 pc nesting set.

All in all I am a little disappointed. The magnetic platform is not strong, so if you don't lay the paper and mat on top carefully, then the dies move. It took me 3 tries to get a neste in nestie to turn out correctly. Also, the are ruler marks on the mats, but I can not honestly figure out how those will help you?

I imagine if they made the magnetic platform too strong, we'd all be complaining that we couldn't get our dies off it. I'm sure it's hard to get it "just right."

I got an email from Scrapbook Express saying you can't use coupons on pre orders. They gave me a choice of paying full price and charging my card when they ship it or they could apply the discount and charge my card right away. This didn't make much sense to me and sounded a bit fishy so I told them to cancel it.
I think I'd rather wait till more people have reviews after having used it for a while anyway.

I also cancelled my pre-order. I figure I can get it at Archiver's with a coupon.

Okay I just got my magnetic platform from Archivers. I am now wondering why in the world anyone would want this. Yes the die does stick to the magnetic platform. But since you put the cutting side up then your paper and then the mats, how in the world do you see what you are cutting if you want specific placement?
So you are cutting out blindly so what's the use. Who cares at this point if it moves around.
To me it is better to do the method of using repositional tape and taping the die down where you want it then running it through with your regular platform and clear plates
or
permanently attach a magnetic sheet to a clear plate and use this to place your paper on, then die cut side down, another clear plate and run it through. Even though you might have to eventually replace the plate with magnet sheet attached, think of how many you can do before you hit the cost of the genius magnetic platform.

Please let me know if I am missing something on the benefits of this magnetic platform.

I am sorry to say that I was certainly not a genius when I bought this.

Thank you for your honest review. I use masking tape to keep my dies in place. I think I've been on a new gadget kick that I didn't even think to realize whether I needed this or not. I'm so glad I didn't buy it at Archiver's.

I really agree with your post. I wanted a magnetic plate so I could make "windows" using 2 dies so that is the reason I don't like the fact the dies move. However, gluing a magnet sheet to an acrylic plate is an awesome idea and would be exactly the type of thing I could use. Such a simple idea that I didn't think of!!

However I just tried putting a magnetic vent cover under my BS acrylic plate and it wasn't strong enough. Has anyone done this? What magnet did you use and what sandwich?

Thanks!!

I don't know if this helps, but with my Epic 6, I purchased some of the Quickutz magnetic sheets and applied them to my cutting base. It does tighten the sandwich a bit, but it works!

I bought magnetic photo sheets from Hobby Lobby. I would post the link but I am not allowed until I have posted 3 posts to forums. Go to Hobby Lobby. com and type in 847434. You should see the product. It is large enough to do two plates.

I attach it permanently to a clear platform
Sandwich would be - magnetic plate-paper-die-clear plate

Note: Stampin Up used to carry magnetic sheets but they are not in the new catalog

Thank you so much for posting your review. It is very helpful and answered my question about centering the stamped image.

Do you attach the magnet sheet to the "bacK" of the plate so you can put your die cut side down?

Thanks!!

I wouldn't think so. Most manufacturers recommend cutting side up so you would place the magnetic sheet on the "top" side of the bottom plate.

You put the magnet sheet on top of the plate. sticky side attaches to the plate and magnetic side is up
To cut:
Plate with magnetic side up
Next, your paper/design
Then your die cut side down (so you can place it on your paper/design)
Finally another clear plate.

You will be cutting into the magnetic sheet.

I order from ScrapyLand quite often and give them 5 stars. Sign up for their email newsletter and get a 40% coupon code (for one item) each month.

That said, I'm going to pass on the Genius platform. I often place my wafer-thin dies so I can see what I'm cutting around/out. I use painter's tape (low-tack) to hold things where I want them and have never had a problem cutting where I want.

Also, I don't want to have to find a place to store another set of cutting/embossing/shimming pads.

Finally another clear plate.

You will be cutting into the magnetic sheet.

But wouldn't cutting into the magnet gouge out the magnetic sheet? I love this idea but it would leave gouges and dings in the magnetic sheet, and eventually rendering it useless and creating marks on your paper, if you choose to emboss them (i.e. as with Spellbinders). Has anyone had that problem?

My SU demonstrator has done this and she has several classes each month. She has done this for at least 3 months worth of classes. Yes it does leave gouges but the imprint of them does not show on what you cut out.

I am going to a class tomorrow and will ask her if she has seen any problem with this method. I haven't but then again I am not using it day in day out. It works fine for what I do

Another note on this product...When I returned mine the lady working there told me that none of the workers had bought one. There also seems to be a problem with running more than one die (for nesting) at a time. She told me the company will be coming out with an improved version.

Amazon has it for preorder for just about $30.00, with free shipping.

I just picked up a Spellbinders Magnetic Spacer Plate at JoAnn's for $5 to see if that might help me, until the Amazon plate is available. I'm going to see if that works this afternoon. I hope it goes through my machine (my machine can be very touchy about thick items going through it!) Thank you for all your help and info Ladies! Please let me know if the Sizzix magnetic platform works for you.

Don't ask me how I did it, but I just preordered this from Amazon for 20 cents.

OMGosh! How did you manage that?? Do you think they will come back and charge you at a later date?

No, I don't. They said I have an order total of 20 cents and I called and talked to two different people.
