JUN12VSNMINI1 ~ Friday, May 4th ~ 6:00 PM EST ~ Sentimental Journey
Title: Sentimental Journey
Hostess: Crafty Math Chick
Keyword: JUN12VSNMINI1
Day/Date: Friday, May 4th
Time: 6:00 PM EST
"Gonna take a sentimental journey
Gonna set my heart at ease
Gonna make a sentimental journey
To renew old memories...
Got my bag, got my reservation
Spent each dime I could afford
Like a child in wild anticipation
Long to hear that "All aboard"
Seven--that's the time we leave--at seven
I'll be waitin' up for heaven
Countin' every mile of railroad track
That takes me back
Never thought my heart could be so yearny
Why did I decide to roam?
Gotta take that sentimental journey
Sentimental journey home"
(Writers: Les Brown, Ben Homer, Bud Green)
Welcome to the first stop on your VSN Journey! I hope you will begin by playing along with my challenge to 'take a sentimental journey' and create a card where the sentiment or inspirational quote is the main focus. There are so many beautiful images out there, it would be great to see a gallery full of cards with no images at all for a change of pace, where the sentiments have their moment in the spotlight.
My sample card for this challenge was inspired by a card created by my friend Candace (also known as 'CandyLou' here on SCS). I truly think it is spectacular! This is Candace's card: HERE
If you are curious, Candace made a terrific tutorial on how to make pretty stick pins like these if you care to check it out sometime: How to Make Stick Pins by Candace
1. ALL VSN CREATIONS MUST BE UPLOADED BY 6:00 PM EST ON Friday, May 11th (the time of the next VSN Mini Challenge!).
2. You have 45 minutes to complete the challenge.
3. Please remember to put in the correct keyword, JUN12VSNMINI1, when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos.
It is also highly recommended that you post a link to your creation in this chat thread to be sure you layout is seen.
I can't wait to see what you come up with!! Thanks for playing in my VSN Mini challenge!
Fun challenge. Love both your card and Candace's -- they are both just beautiful.
With a whole week, I can actually think about the challenge before jumping on it.

Thanks! I know Candace appreciates the compliment too.
Yeah, the mods decided to try something a little different with the mini challenges this time, one each Friday the month before leading up to the main event.
Thanks for the challenge and the beautiful cards. I have mine done - finished just in time - thought I should do it now while I have the time instead of planning on doing it later and then getting too busy. Will have to take a picture of it later though since my husband wants to have dinner.... Can't wait until next Friday for the next challenge!

Excellent! Thanks so much for playing in my challenge Randi (and for keeping me company here). I can't wait to see your card!
Hey, I'm here! I just got back from town. I was tired of my sentiment stamps, and checked out three different craft stores for inspiration. Benny's to the rescue! They even had a coupon (rare as hen's teeth).
So. Beat it on home, slapped together another frame card. Got a little heavy handed with the sponging, but it's done. Here's my Mother Teresa card:

WHOA! You 'slapped' this together?!! I think it looks terrific! That frame is very elegant looking. Thanks for playing along with my challenge 9and congrats on the coupon!) ;)
AND I finished three (3!) cards for the SNSS release party challenges. I'm feeling smug.
That's AWESOME! I still have to start mine - I thought of using this one for my 'no coloring' challenge, but don't know if Korin would mind that I used another company's sentiment - I know they aren't required, but it would be one thing if I didn't own ANY of their sentiments, but I do, so I will make another card for that challenge...

... it may be related to this one though... ;)
I was so ready to use my new little owl set, but couldn't figure out how to, given the challenge guidelines. All the rest of my snss are autumn or floral.

You could paper piece the owl - that would qualify as 'no coloring' if that is the SNSS challenge you mean
I uploaded it into my gallery with the correct keyword, but I don't see it in the VSN gallery. Did I do something wrong?
I am not sure Carolyn... Hmmmm.... I know it took my card about 10 minutes to show up in the gallery with the tag, not sure about the VSN Gallery overall... might be a question for one of the moderators - I am just a hostess and don't have privileges to move photos around in the gallery.
I considered that-- paper piecing. Maybe after I've recovered from today's card making marathon. I've yet to finish my samples for VSN. The three cards I finished this morning all met more than one challenge. I think I got a little (!) OCD.

Ever since the Dare to Get Dirty (DTGD) challenges that come every summer where you CAN combine challenges my brain just instantly combines as many challenges as possible now - it is a challenge sometimes to make a card for JUST ONE challenge, LOL! Don't know how to turn that switch off... Just think, you are all warmed up for DTGD this summer!!

Don't know what Dare to Get Dirty is.

You might have to be a SCS fan club member... last year it was in July I think - something like 30 of the current and past Dirty Dozen Gals hostess challenges for us, one each day for a month or something - and you CAN combine them, and then at the end there are BIG BIG prizes for folks who completed ALL of them. GREAT time to build up your card stash! Could not play last year because we had just moved and everything was packed up, might be in the same position this summer, but I am PRAYING it is on the late side, late July or August even, so maybe I can unpack a box or two to play.
I am a fan club member. I'll have to keep my eyes open come summer. The mft sketch for this week-- I know you take part... Well, someone just uploaded the most FABULOUS graduation card. Check it out!

(Blushing) I love MFT buyt have not participated in one of their sketches in a while, I don't know why, they are great! Thanks for the heads up - will have to check out that grad card! ;)
LOL, exactly! And prizes too! VSN used to have prizes, but not in a long time. I think it is fun anyway. ;)
Something to look forward to, then. I'm signing off-- must clean up this craft domain (aka my office). Great chatting with you! Have fun with your challenge.

Hi! Just got home and ready to start my Friday evening here on the West Coast!
I'm going to check out the gallery and start thinking about a sentiment for my Sentimental Journey! Gosh, I've got the song stuck in my head already! My mom used to sing it a lot when I was a kid.
Hi everyone!! I am so very honored that Meredith liked my card enough to CASE it! Meredith, your card is GORGEOUS! Your stick pins look fabulous. Aren't they so fun to make?! I love how you stamped the sentiment on patterned paper!
I am definitely going to play along with this challenge...at some point! My stamp room is all messed up right now since I have hubby hanging new shelves for me!
Wonderful challenge! I hope this meets the challenge...it's almost entirely sentiment...although it is a grad card. Here's my Graduation in Red. Thanks so much for looking!
