Where is the best place and deal for wood spools. I would like them to be the size of a normal thread spool, not minis.

I bought my full size wooden spools in Michaels. They were in the wood section. It's been a couple of years though since I bought them.

You can often find them in thrift shops in with other sewing notions/supplies in baggies or sewing baskets. I scored big-time when my in-laws gave me their old sewing machine and sewing box - tons of old buttons and lots of thread on wooden spools! Do you know anyone who sews who might share?

I saw somewhere (can't remember at the moment where) that people are using larger wooden spools to put their SU twine on. Apparently when the twine sits in the SU packaging it has a fold in it from being wrapped around the insert.

My twine is always fine, but that's what I saw online.

I am not sure what you need them for but I have used wooden spools for twine for several years. The best and cheapest I have found are from my parrot supplier. Yes, I use them for my parrots too. Anyway, you can buy them from California Bird Nerds in colors or plain wood. I prefer the plain wood. Hope this helps.

If you are looking for vintage wood spools with labels on you can purchase them from various sellers in etsy. I usually find mine in the wood department at the craft store or at the thrift store.

I have seen them available in Ellen Hutson's online store. I would like to know if anyone has seen any that are cut in half so that there is a flat edge against your card or project so there isn't so much added bulk.

I am a sewer from way back when all thread used to come on wooden spools. Luckily I kept them all and even painted a bunch for my kids to string. (Now my grandkids use them.) I do have a few more saved and have been using them to wrap twine around and saddened that thread only comes on plastic. Good to know there are sources for them. You guys are so smart!

Ha! This is exactly what I did. When I was shopping online for supplies for my two parrots is when I came across the various colors of spools. I love pairing the twine with a fun contrasting color for the spool!

Gosh, I just figured the price range for those 2 inch high narrow core spools...from 35 cents to $1.50 each. Quite a range!
