MAR12VSNH~Sprung Springs, Sprockets & Gears Saturday March 10th 3PM EST
Title: Sprung Springs, Sprockets & Gears!
Hostess: JBgreendawn
Keyword: MAR12VSNH
Day/Date: Saturday March 10
Time: 3PM EST.
When I read the words, Spring has Sprung I instantly thought of watch parts springing OUT of the compartment when then lead to thoughts of Steampunk...
Yep, you guessed it This challenge is to create something a card, a tag ( what ever you like) using an Steampunk theme.
If your not familiar with this, in a nutshell its fictional genre of science fiction set in the victorian era. so, you may see characters with victorian clothing and or googles and spats on the legs with buttons. for "things" you may see air ships ( hot air balloons ) or any item with the gears and sprockets exposed. SO, lets see your gears. this can be real metal ( ie watch parts ) embossed cardstock, die cuts. you could wind wire into a spiral spring shape and tuck a message into it.
This link will take you to the splitcoastgallery of uploads tagged as Steampunk for further inspiration.
1. ALL VSN CREATIONS MUST BE UPLOADED BY 10:00PM EST ON MONDAY,
2. You have 45 minutes to complete the challenge. This does not include thinking time, just assembly.
3. Please remember to put the correct keyword,MAR12VSNH, when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos.
4. Remember not to combine VSN challenges.
It is also highly recommended that you post a link to your creation in this thread to be sure your card is seen.
My Sample uses an Sweetpea image She's colored with copic's in a not so normal way and there are tiny watch parts on the sentiment tag. Middle card was done for a Birthday for one of the guys at work and the last one is a non-hearts and flowers valentine... (both of these cards I "thought" could be done in less then 45 since there was no coloring, but it was closer to 50 minutes)
Ok, so I just found some paper that has some gears printed on it.....I will see what I can do......
I actually went to the store 3 times this week and passed up the gears 3 times thinking I would come back later (I use coupons!) but never got back to the store. I am going to see what I can do with this challenge!
Wow. I have never heard of Steampunk before. This might be tough...I do see an Eiffel Tower image in the Steampunk gallery. Can I use that? I don't have any gears or Victorian ladies/gentlemen.

This is a "feeling" more then a specific thing... mostly shades of browns, anything victorian era... so if the world evolved without gas power and everything ran on steam... so if you seen the movie "wild wild west" with will smith, or the new version movies of Sherlock Holmes there are all kinds of gadgets in those also...
and yes, you get to do what you feel is that steam punk. the authors get to make it up as they go along too right?
I don't stamp steampunk. (or birdcages, mice, children with abnormally large heads, or fairies). So of course I've nothing in my domain--or nearby shopping--to meet this criteria. The "gears" on this card are really daisies with their middles and tips punched off. Using my wits and resources.
Yay Lois! thanks for giving this a whirl! Those samples above are my very first steampunk cards too! I think they have the potential to become interesting guy cards down the line when I've done it more.
I was going to take a break from all the stamping..getting a little pooped here but when I saw Steampunk as the theme I had to play...I decided to make a tag as that wouldn't take as long and I'm getting lazy so I scanned it rather than photographing it but here it is..take a look
This was a challenge that I really could have used a lot more time with. I would have liked to add some fibers or hardware of some sort, but couldn't find and integrate them in time.

Ok here is mine. I am not sure I really captured the idea, but here it is! It was a FUN challenge. I think "tessaduck" made much BETTER gears then I did. I thought I was kind of clever choosing a snowflake embossing folder to press out my gears although compared to Tessaduck ...they don't quite measure up!!!
Thanks, Stacy. I have not looked at the gallery, and I really don't have any idea if this is even close to the mark, but I did try! And I got done in less than 45 minutes. I have not done a VSN for a long time.
I've surprised myself this was a very quick card 30 minutes. Thought it was going to be hard, I haven't really done steampunk before. Stretching the boundries thats good.
Stacy. Thanks for hosting this challenge! This was easier than I thought. I DID have the gears embossing folder! I felt the train was from that era! TFL
