Does anybody have the Ikea Alex rolling drawer set? I saw it at the store and was ready to impulse buy, but they were out of stock. I still think I want it though, just wondering if Nyone has one and can give me some pros and cons. Also, I am hoping to store it under my Expedit desk when not in use, does anybody know if it will fit under there with the castors on? Thanks!

I have it and it works for me, but the biggest con is the top drawers are shallow, but that is obvious when you buy it. I store embellishments, stickles, etc by color/theme in mine so since most things are in flat packages it works for me - i have small baskets in the drawer for tiny things. it rolls very smoothly and easily, and from other discussions on the boards of this unit it is strong enough to store a ton of punches in the bottom drawers without any problems for the user who did it. I don't have the expedit desk so i can't say if it fits under or not.

Thank you so much for your review, really appreciate it. I did notice the top drawers were very shallow but that would work for me as well since I plan on storing my works in progress stuff in them. Now if I could just be certain it would fit under the Expedit desk, I would make have to make another Ikea run, lol.

This is on my "want/need/dying for" list - our Ikea is over an hour away and can't convince DH that it is a "necessary" trip... LOL ;) will keep pushing though

My closest Ikea is over an hour away also. I was bummed that it wasn't in stock when I was there on Tuesday, but I have plenty to do putting the still I got together. I hemmed and hawed nearly three years about adding the desk piece to my Expedit and now that it is installed, I could kick myself for not adding it from the get go! I guess I will have to make another run soon.

I have 4 sets stacked 2 on top of each other. I use them to hold My Stampin' Up wood mounts. I love them except that they are not full extension drawers. In the top 3 narrow drawers I am able to have 2 sets of Stampin' Up wood mounts stacked on top of each other and in the bottom 3 drawers it will hold the blue tins they used to sell that held a punch, stamps and spots. Again I love these just wished they were full extension drawers. I have to move the front stamps to see what sets are in the back. I attached a picture they are to the right and hanging on the wall are cd/dvd holders also from Ikea. I keep my SU cling mounts in those.

Leigh Anne, thank you so much for the link, I searched, but never found that discussion! This has now moved to my "must have" list! And Pamela, what an awesome space!

I have one and am seriously considering purchasing another. They now have a tall version I also like, but since I am a short person it probably wouldn't work well for me. As for availability, did you know that if you go on line in the IKEA website you can check to see if they have it in stock in your local store and if they are out of stock you can ask to be notified when they come in. I went to purchase the expidite unit and they were out of stock so I used this feature to alert me when they arrived.
hope this helps.

I LOVE mine and plan on getting a second. I used to store mine under my expedit desk so it does fit! I LOVE the shallow drawers. I attached a picture of my old room with it under the desk and one of the new room...not sure if you can see it well in the picture. It's next to my desk now and I love that it has a large surface to sit things on! All my DSP is on top of it now.
So, I made it to down to Ikea a couple of weeks ago and all can say is WOW, Alex, where have you been all my life! This thing is awesome! It slides right under my Expedit desk and holds all my inks, embossing folders, glitters and all of my single stamps! It is so incredibly awesome to have all that stuff right at my finger tips. Thank you everyone for your help, I am one happy stamper!

i say an hour each way is nothing! my closest one is 5hrs each way.

Do you go to the one by Philly, or down to New Jersey?
My Ikea is 5hrs away too!! When I get to start redesigning my craft space I am definitely going to Ikea! This is great I will have to look into "Alex". Not sure about the drawers not being full extension though...hmmmm...
I just got back from Ikea because I had to see this thing in person with punches in hand.
I noticed that the height of the 6 drawer one and the wider Alex that's $119 are the same...The top 2-3 are the same shallow height and the bottom ones are taller.
I had a MS old style, non folding, border punch with me. It fit in the top drawers if it was lying down. Standing up with handles up, nope.
But lower drawers, standing up with handles on top, does fit.
I'm mainly interested in the Alex to store my punches b/c I'm in the mood to upgrade from my Iris carts. Currently, I have 2 6-drawer Iris carts stacked on top of each other full of punches. I want to get all my storage white so it matches. I'm tired of the mismatched Ikea shelving / Michael's cubes / plastic carts/totes I've got going on.
Thanks so much to all of you for the photos. They really helped! I cant' wait to get my Alex soon and get it set up and moved in!
I've had my Alex for about 3 years now. In terms of holding items it is fantastic. I do have two complaints. The lack of full extension that has already been mentioned. My drawers are always getting messed up because I'm pawing around trying to see what is at the back.
The second complaint is that the drawers are not removable. I keep my stamped images in a drawer and occasionally they will catch and slide down the back. There is no way to remove a drawer to retrieve them. I have to try to extend the second from bottom drawer, while holding the one above it closed. I am quite slender and still have lots of trouble with it. The drawers are too long for my children to help me though. If something does fall down, the bottom drawer doesn't close properly. Very frustrating!
I assemble the drawers myself and I have taken to omitting the stopper from the bottom-most drawer so that I can retrieve the items when they fall right to the bottom. There is no worry of the drawers tipping over as it is right near the base. I have two tall ones and will be setting up the wide ones this weekend.
I hope this link works. It's the assembly instruction for Alex drawers (wide) but applicable to all styles of the drawer. Go to page 11 and you can check where to remove the screw that limits the drawer slider mechanism.
I was excited when DH surprised me with the Alex. (Isn't he awesome?!?) But I'm just as excited with your help. The screws were out in under 10 minutes of seeing your post and it's so awesome to be able to see the entire contents of the drawers!
