Smile SEARCHING FOR THE APPROPRIATE WORDS TO SAY!

WELCOME TO TEAPOT TUESDAY
SEARCHING FOR THE APPROPRIATE WORDS TO SAY!

Hi everyone! If you are here at this thread you might be struggling to find the appropriate words to say in a card you are sending to the weekly Destination Station recipient. You are not alone, its a difficult thing, and I think we all struggle from time to time.

As you know many of the cards we mail to people through our Tuesday challenges are terminal patients and in some cases they have very little time to live. We have mailed our cards to several terminal patients and have found that the cards bring a bright spot in the last days of their lives. We also have mailed our cards to family members who have lost loved ones.

I have received several e-mails asking me for ideas on what to write in the inside of your cards. This week, the recipient of our cards is a friend of Dorothy (Etsdas) and Betty is terminal. Dorothy came up with a wonderful idea! Why not start a thread and share ideas. Dorothy would like to see this thread hold a collection of short, chipper, cheerful, thinking of you verses. Verses that are upbeat but could be used and appropriate for terminal patients.

So, the purpose of this thread is to collect everyone's thoughts and favorite verses, sayings and sentiments to use on the inside of your card. For ease in reading, lets use one post to share one idea. Please follow along and share your ideas and kind words. Please feel free to leave religious verses as well. I try to indicate in the Destination Station thread each week whether it is appropriate to send religious thoughts/sentiments to the specific recipients.

Together, we will end the search for the appropriate words! I will start with a few ideas, things that I have used in the past.

Thank you Dorothy for this great suggestion!

Dear Recipient:

I am sending you these little sunflowers all the way from Colorado in hopes that when they arrive at your mailbox, they will brighten your day.

Thinking of you in Colorado.

Note: Insert appropriate words where underlined depending on the theme of the challenge and where you live.

Dear Recipient:

A little birdie told me that you love sunflowers! Another little birdie told me that if I made you this little card, it make you smile! A third little birdie told me the first two birdies are never wrong! I hope all these birdies know what they are talking about!

What a great list! Thank you, Cindy.
I have more to add but will have to do most of them later.

A ray of sunshine
A breath of springtime
And caring thoughts
For you.

This is really helpful, Cindy. I will try to add something to the thread.

I say something like this, "Just want you to know someone in California is keeping you in their thoughts today. Sending along a little ray of California sunshine your way."

I wrote these words to write in my card when it's finished. If anyone has the thought that they may be inappropriate, please let me know a.s.a.p. I could only draw from my most recent experiences, "walking" with my sweet Aunt and my dear husband.

Hello Betty! I am Gabby, one of Dorothy's fellow Teapotters from Split Coast Stampers. I am sending you this card with a wagon full of flowers, which are my wishes that today is a good day for you! Know that even though we are not personally acquainted and I cannot literally walk with you, I am in caring thoughts and prayer, walking beside you.

This is what the inside of my card says this week:

Sending my thoughts and a little prayer, too
Just so you'll know someone cares about you.

I like a couple of phrases from SU's Hard to Say set. I use this set a lot with my friends who are battling cancer and other diseases..."I've never known someone so brave. I'm praying for you." and "You are stronger than this. You are brave and courageous. And let's face it, You're my friend so that means you can put up with anything!" and finally, "Life doesn't always happen just as we planned, but I plan to be there for you always."

Or maybe this ;
Please know that I am here for you.

Here are several:

We were thinking of you today
and just wanted you to know
How important you are to us.

May Gods love and care
Be with you every day!
With hugs
And lots of love!

We are strangers to each other, but we want to tell you that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

I used to have a pair of stamps ... the first one said, Hope today is a good day... and the 2nd one said ... and tomorrow is even better!

Sometimes I only use the first one.

I thought this was especially nice too and a good idea to include a brief explanation as to who the sender is.

The cards we send help more than the person to whom they are originally addressed I think. Hopefully they comfort the caregivers, friends and family too.

I thought I was the only one with this problem. So thank you, thank you for this thread.

I like to include my favorite Bible verse:

The Lord bless you and keep you,
The Lord make his face to shine upon you
and be gracious to you.
The Lord turn His face toward you
and give you peace.
Numbers 6:24-26

This verse always brings me such comfort, and I hope it will bring comfort to someone else, too.

For some reason, it had never occurred to me to add the bit about "greetings from AZ..." - I agree, thanks for all the great ideas.
And confession here - guess I will have to learn to read the directions - now I know there should be one verse per post. Cindy, when did you start using rules?

This thread is a GREAT idea! I always struggle with what to say, and this will be really helpful when trying to choose an appropriate message. I forgot to write down what I said in Betty's card, but I know it included "Please know that I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers"

What a great thread! Thank you all for sharing. I certainly lack in the "inside of a card sentiment" department.

This is wonderful.....YEARS prior to making my own cards ( gosh I haven't purchased a CARD since 2003 ! ) I purchased a card with this verse in it, and then went back and purchased 8-10 more of the same card !!! I thought it was a very appropriate card for some instances ....illness, terminally ill patients etc.

I forgot about this ...thanks for mentioning it once more !

Dorothy....what rule? I forgot, did I put a rule in place? Snort!
No big deal...just go with the flow.....that's all we know! Ha ha! I made a rhyme!

Hey Sugar...you an Rosalia love the same verse! Whoda thunk!

My ideas that I wrote in the beginning sound so goofy compared to others....but then hey, I suppose that is just me! You guys will help me here!

No, Cindy, not goofy at all. I am coming back here often to copy ideas - including yours.

I found this precious sentiment stamp at a little Amish Farmhouse shop and I use it when people aren't going to get better and I know they are religious.

God has promised to never
leave nor forsake you.
You can count on Him
through this illness.
He will carry you in
His loving arms.

This gives me comfort. I hope it does the same for the recipient of the card.

Love what you've started here Cindy, I will bookmark it. I have to tell you that when I had a friend who was terminal my son Ben was young. He used to tell me a knock-knock joke to put into the card each time I sent one. Here's a link to something that might be fun to tickle a funny bone or two.

Here's one I use a lot...

If the future seems overwhelming, remember that it comes one moment at a time. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I was struggling to find the right words, then I found this thread. By combining thoughts from different posts, I came up with this:

This little red bird is flying in from Texas to share his favorite hymn with you. He heard about you on SplitCoast Stampers and wanted to brighten your day. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks Ladies for the helpful posts!

I used this sentiment in my card to Ernie who was feeling depressed:

"A bend in the road is not the end of the road...unless you fail to make the turn." author unknown

Some of these are mine (I like to write poetry when the mood strikes)
"Today youve been on my mind
So I thought Id get in touch
Im praying that all is going well
For I havent heard from you much
I know our lives can get so busy
With all that we must do
But I wanted to take this time to say
Im thinking of you too"

"I just thought Id drop a line
To let you know I care
For youve been on my mind today
And I wanted to say Im here
If you ever need a friend
To share whats on your mind
Dont hesitate to call on me
For Ill always have the time"
