This might be a stupid question, but I've just begun coloring with Prisma and gamsol (practicing really) and don't know much at all about colored pencils, so I'm wondering what makes you choose to color with one brand of pencil over another.

I mainly stick with my Prismacolor pencils. Some brands do 'play' well with each other and some do not. For instance, some brands are soft and waxy and some are a harder lead, less waxy. Prisma is the easiest to get in the US and a perfect choice for price...coupons at the Michaels, Joanns. I like the color choices and for me it's about choice! I also like to look at them and I kinda collect them. Do you need them all, no. The Prismacolor Verithin are NOT for this technique. Watercolor pencils, are NOT for this technique. You want a wax, soft pencil for blending and the gamsol/OMS is what makes that happen. does this help?
